Michael Jackson’s Halloween - New animated special coming this fall

This is pretty much me! I'm not dead set against this, it just ain't my bag. That's why I'm just meh about it. I was expecting Thriller 3D from getting caught up in the threads over the past 24 hours. I'm happy when Thriller 3D comes, plenty on here voice their opinion about the Estate not releasing post Quincy releases also.

Anyways, it is what it is. For those who are happy, excited, on board, I'm delighted for you. Personally I'm just indifferent and over my initial disappointment.
I feel exactly the same way

we now know 2 of the 'several' projects that are to come.. 2 for Thriller! lets see what else is to come.. hopefully some more announcements will be around the corner

They struck up a deal with CBS and got all the artwork finalized in a matter of two days?
I disagree. This was the announcement all along. CBS is the "partner" who wanted it to be announced today instead of yesterday.

If this theory is to be believed then obviously the animated special was in the works and planned already. It think the point being made was that this took the place of the announcement which was planned yesterday.

I think there's a strong possibility that was the case. Either that or the Estate wrongly felt this warranted a big announcement.

I really don't have a big problem with this being done but to give fans a heads up that an announcement was coming and it be the first new Estate project in quite some time, and it's this - it just seems so odd. Particularly when we know Thriller 3D is coming BEFORE this. None of it is adding up to me. If this had just been dropped on the social media platforms without the big hoopladeedoo and hype it would have been greeted by fans far more warmly. They're their own worst enemy.

Considering mj was working on this pre june 09 and it was something he wanted to do would some of you still be complaining if this was mj doing this and not the estate.after all they are for once carrying out mjs wishes.nothing wrong with that

Exactly. I for one can't wait to see this! Love the idea :)

I wish the mj fan community would stop sabotaging every project the estate works on. It's ridiculous. For Any project to be a true success it needs a positive buzz and that starts in the fan community, but you guys kill that before it even starts, and for the most selfish and petty reasons.
With such negativity so vocally shared by the mj fan community across all corners of the internet how on earth are the mj estate supposed to continue mj legacy???? You're killing it yourselves.

I don't expect this to be a popular post but I don't care.

Thank you! I was surprised to see all the negative responses. Even if it's not what you expected, can't you at least wait and see how it turns out before you label it an insult or a joke?

I think MJ would have loved this. I can definitely see him coming up with this himself. Michael loved animation and Halloween, combining the two with his art is just perfect. I hope it turns out well and a new generation of young fans discover him! :)

I'll take this a million times over Thriller 3D or an album of half-finished songs and remixes, no doubt about it.

I understand, but I still think this was the announcement they planned on. I agree, I do not think this type of project warranted the hype they generated for it. This is on a much smaller scale compared to Thriller 3D (which I was hoping for). However, it seems the Estate really believed MJ fans would be satisfied by this. Alicia's comment in yesterday's statement sounded very optimistic: "I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the announcement." I could see how they'd feel this deserved a big announcement since this was probably a costly production that took some significant work and time to pull together.

I think they should have allowed the network to announce it first without prior notification, then the Estate confirm it later.

Interesting idea... I'll probably give it a watch but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. Would rather have an anime adaptation of Moonwalker instead but that's just me.

You could well be right. None of us know. But don't you think it's a little odd that Thriller 3D is due to get it's world premiere this summer (most likely at Toronto International Film Festival) and instead of announcing that they chose to announce something that's going to happen more than a month after Thriller 3D as their first big announcement in quite some time?

There's obviously a reason why they've done it this way. I just couldn't guess what it is.

It's definitely odd and I've been trying to figure it out as well. I think the Halloween special announcement could have waited until mid to late August or the first week of September at the very latest.

I don't know how film premieres typically work, but is it possible that they're going to premiere Thriller 3D first to see how it is received and then announce an official release? Feel free to enlighten me. lol

Awesome!
I love this idea.
Imagine MJ's holiday special being iconic like The Nightmare Before Christmas, or It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
Michael already has Halloween on lock with Thriller anyway, so this cartoon was a really good idea IMO.
I hope they use songs like Threatened, Is It Scary, and Ghosts along with Thriller.
I also hope the animation is Disney/Pixar-esque.
Michael would love this!

You are absolutely right. This wasn't a last minute thing. Animations take a long time to complete. They already have the artwork and secure the voice talent and probably already recorded or finished the show. This was the announcement all along.

No one's suggesting they came up with this whole idea in 24hrs. Come on now.

Clearly this animated thing has been in the works for some time. But that doesn't mean to say a planned announcement ran aground and another project also in the works (incidentally bowing later) was substituted. We simply don't know. We know for sure a far bigger announcement could have been made for a project that is coming sooner. Maybe there was a change of plan?

I'm disappointed.............................................................................................................that they can't call it Heartbreak Hotel. Seriously though, reading the description from CBS, it doesn't sound half bad. If it will bring new fans in, and it undoubtedly will, then I'm all for it. But yeah, an underwhelming announcement, as per usual.

I lean more to this point of view. To be honest what you're saying makes more sense. Especially with the 24 hour delay.

YEA!!!! I hope this annimated feature does become a Halloween tradition.

Aaaaaaand the Estate failed once more. Good job, guys. Good job.

I think Branca spoke about this Halloween-project about a year ago or so in a interview.

The really great news is that in 2042 we're getting a MICHAEL JACKSON HALLOWEEN ANIMATED SPECIAL 8 DISC BOX SET.

Come on guys, don't deny it. You know it to be true.

Why people would support something they don't care about? I'm not sure if I will ever watch this. Estate has made many great projects like Bad 25, Wembley and Xscape.

Not what I expected. But I see some positive aspects in this.

I am 30 - so I guess I am not the main target/audience for this show - it targets children I guess. And that's actually smart. If they make a good movie and somehow gets MJ's halloween themed songs mixed in, it could be great. - And as someone wrote above - this could be an iconic movie maybe. If it is shown year after year at Halloween it will help promote not only Thriller but MJ in general for a long time to come.

In a few years I will watch it with my son - and hopefully he will like it - and the music. :)

I am still very sure we will get Thriller 3D - after everything John Landis has said there is no way it is not coming this year. - ALSO didn't John Landis sue the estate? and this was part of the bargain they made? - So sure it will come. No worries.

Is't a leading project for the main announcement to come later this year. We're weeks away from an announcement of a halloween themed album.

That was my FIRST thought! Haha!

HEARTBREAK HOTEL 4EVA

Honestly, it was barely hyped up. Hyping it up would be posting teasers about it in the days leading up to the announcements, like other artists do. Not sending out an email to a handful of fansites on the downlow (not even MJJC mind you), then posting a single image on Facebook. We know other, more 'mature' projects are in the pipeline so there's hardly reason to be that disappointed, if at all. Going off Landis' comments, we're going to see an announcement for the Thriller 2017 project sooner rather than later anyway.

EDIT: Also do yourselves a favour and don't bother reading the Facebook comments. Some people...

Now, I admit, I was expecting the Thriller 2017 project so I was a bit "oh..." when I opened Facebook this morning, but I remembered right after it was still coming anyway so ya know, whatever. I like they're trying new(ish) angles to gain a new audience of fans.

There's a show on Netflix called The Beat Bugs, which is apparently rather popular with young kids. It's a show based on the music of The Beatles, often the cast and celebrities come in to sing covers of The Beatles songs, and from what I've read on various social media, many parents have said it's a great way to introduce young children to The Beatles music. This too seems like a great opportunity to introduce young kids to the music of Michael Jackson. It's obviously not targeted at me, but sure I'll check it out. Here's hoping it's great for all ages, like a classic Pixar film!

I doubt they will release an entire Halloween themed album, but I do like the idea!! :)

Thriller, Ghosts, Is It Scary, Threatned - and maybe MJ had some Halloween themed songs in the vault too? Release Thriller/Ghosts on Blu-Ray and then a Halloween Album - would be kind of cool really!! :)

I am done with the estate like seriously! This is not mj ...this is scooby do ish! Lol

To be fair none of us know what this is... we haven' seen anything yet, only one picture and a very short text explaining there will be an animated movie.

Let's give it the benefit of the doubt. It's for children I guess and if children likes the movie and likes the MJ Music - really it has been a succes.

Anything that keeps Michael's legacy going is fine by me. It is only by getting a new audience who may start to think about MJ that the legacy is perpetuated. After this release maybe we get something for the fan base.
