What to Expect for the 10th Anniversary from the MJ Estate

I'm hoping for a huge tribute concert, myself. Get all the big names who loved Michael to come and perform his songs, etc... But I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Seriously why should we it‘s just a best of album!??? We should get something for Dangerous 30, but why Number Ones? Just a best of and not even something special

Easy: nothing.
We didn't get Bad25, OTW was expensive (and not that attractive), no thriller 3d and no special audio format for a Bad reissue (I think it happened in Japan)

I actually don't like other people performing his songs, because they never do them justice. The 30th Anniversary concert was okay, because Michael and the Jackson brothers had their own segments but that wouldn't happen this time, without MJ here.

But we did get BAD25???

If pushed to admit what I'd like to have officially released, then I'd like to see a compilation album of the BEST songs from BOTDF, Invincible and Michael, with some bonus tracks - perhaps out-takes/good demos from the Dangerous/HIStory/Invincible sessions and also post-trial, if there's anything worthy (which is perhaps doubtful).

I'd definitely like to see another good quality concert released on Blu-Ray/DVD, along the lines of the Wembley concert. I don't even care which one - a concert from Dangerous and another from HIStory would be awesome. I've always wanted to have an official release of the full MJ and Friends Concert in good quality, as well.

I'm tired of tribute concerts, documentaries, books and "lifetime" movies/mini-series. There are, or have been so many already and they never do Michael justice, or else just re-hash the same information that most of us already know, backwards. Instead, I would die for footage of Michael at work in the studio....I don't know if much of that exists, but it would be so, so good....especially if there was a compilation showing his process and his progress, from very early in his career, right through to the end. The little snippets that I've seen and heard already are just the BEST experience ever, for a devoted fan of the man's genius and his heart.

I'm not sure if any of this will ever happen, though. I think there are major issues with access, ownership, quality of the original sources and the melding of technologies from the past into the present.....issues that the average fan like myself has no concept or understanding of.

1) 10th anniversary edition of This Is It with unseen footage. We all know that Dangerous, Stranger In Moscow, Dirty Diana etc were rehearsed by MJ and I'm sure footage exists of those songs rehearsals and we fans need to see those rehearsals.
2) Release of Ghosts, Making of Ghosts and Making of Thriller on blu-ray.
3) MJ did a song called 'Miss You' with Will-i-am in 2006 after James Brown's death. I would like that song to be released on his 10th death anniversary as I feel that will be a great way for his fans to remember him.
4) Release of Bad tour concert in Madison Square Garden in 1988.
5) Paying RIAA money to update MJ's non Thriller albums and singles. As someone who is a keen observer of sales and charts, that would mean a lot.

These are some of the things I would like to see happen. Of course, I know that most of my wish list wouldn't come to fruition sadly.

Why do we need an anniversary edition for a compilation album? Especially for Numbers one which was a really crap album.

And what could be said about Thriller that we haven't heard a million times already? I'd be more interested in a documenatry about Dangerous or HIStory/BOTDF. And it doesn't have to be directed by Spike Lee. Someone else could do it

But, just because you're a super fan and know every MJ fact doesn't mean everyone does tho.
It being one of the greatest selling albums of all time is reason enough for a doc to be made. And people like Bruce Swedien and such don't have many years left. Gotta get these people while they're still here. And since Spike did 2 great docs already, and said he'd want to do a thriller one, i welcome it.

I rly want a Dangerous and so on doc, but later at the right time.

I'm all for re-releasing previously released stuff, but if the estate is interested in quick cash-grabs, why not put out stuff people actually want??

Nobody wanted that SCREAM compilation. It's a themed greatest hits album. It's unoffensive. It's a thing that exists. Cheap, quick to make.
It could be just as cheap and quick to put out a concert never released too.

They should conduct a social experiment and release a concert digitally to see how well it does.

Especially for Number Ones which was a really crap album.

LOL....how can Michael Jackson's Number One songs make a crap album??

I have a feeling that "Number Ones" performs consistently well on the charts, too, so obviously someone is buying it.

That said, we don't need a re-issue or an anniversary edition of it.

I agree with this. A Thriller documentary would complete the trilogy for the three albums that were created with QJ as the producer.

.

Kenny Ortega stated more than once that Michael did not rehearse Dirty Diana. It was planed for the day Michael died.

I live in Brazil. We didn't get Bad25. There was a promise that it would be released here but it never happened. The ones who have it had to buy it on eBay or travel abroad to get it.
OTW was brought by a few bookstores.

Celebrating this is it is one thing. Celebrating MJs death? Maybe his life and greatness. I’m not really into any more anniversaries or compilations albums.

Don't let Spike Lee do anything for Michael ever again. Bad 25 was fine, but Off the Wall was absolutely terrible. I cannot even begin to imagine what he would do to Thriller.

Just remaster The Making of Thriller and send us on our way.
I liked Bad 25. Off the Wall documentary wasn't as good but it was still great. I hope he will make Thriller documentary.

This Is It re-release with new footage but only if there is a lot of it. Songs we haven't seen yet(Dangerous and Dirty Diana for example) and different rehearsals of the songs we have seen. I would definitely buy it then.

Short films in HD on Blu-Ray.

I´m excited on Number Ones 25th Anniversary .....

I'm surprised that some people didn't realise that this was a joke lol

Numbers Ones featured only one song from Dangerous and just two from HIStory. Essential Michael Jackson has a much better tracklist.

The next documentary should be packaged like Bad25. Give us a new concert WITH live Audio from that era. For example, If they decide to make the thriller doc, Package it with an HD (or at least HQ) Victory tour concert. This will entice people to buy because your not just getting a doc. You're getting the entire thriller era packaged.
Spike Lee could re-edit Patrick Kelly's Film footage from the victory tour Billie Jean or Shake your body for example...
In short, Probably nothing but they should consider this as a future project...
They could even add the remastered Thriller Film.

Bad Tour on Blu-Ray would be great. :)

That would be AMAZING! :D

I'd love to see the March 3, 1988 performance at Madison Square Garden on Blu-ray/DVD. We have a good-quality snippet in the Bad 25 documentary.

And I'd absolutely love it if they included performances of "The Way You Make Me Feel" & "Bad" from the Dangerous Tour and "Man in the Mirror" from United We Stand as bonus features.

I'm really hoping against hope for a DVD set of the Destiny, Triumph and Victory tours at some point. This above all else is what I would love to see.

A cleaned up version of the making of Thriller would be awesome.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Moonwalker so I would like to see that Marked some way - maybe a soundtrack album with the J5/Jacksons songs along with Michael's plus the music score because I love the score of that movie. Be nice to have the Blu-ray in an unedited version too.

I feel conflicted by wanting these things, it makes me feel greedy but watching him sing and dance made me so happy so I'd love to see some of the old footage given some TLC and restored to it's full glory.

Great ideas, all. :jump:

Nope they don't will do never, Branca said They will not do tributes for his death or his death anniversary.

I can definitely understand that, out of respect for Michael's children and other family members. I said upthread that I don't consider it a good time for doing something "celebratory", or for promoting new projects. Michael's birthday month is a much better time, or later in the year....October - December, to fit in with most global holiday seasons.

At this point I feel we are closer to another Thriller realease than anything, given the 3D screenings w/ John Landis I feel the Making Of Thriller remaster is ready to drop

Honor MJs work anniversaries not his passing anniversary. If Dangerous 25 didn't get anything but lousy overpriced merchandise [what was it, a t shirt and a hoodie?], his death should categorically not even be considered a release period.

Hopefully they release Thriller 3D soon, although I don't think it would be watched/consumed much at all after the first viewing. I'd love to get a real 'new' release.

please? And btw, totally agree on celebrating his life anniversary and not his passing, I feel more confortable with this new tittle myself as well.

I heard murmurs that they wanted to release a tenth anniversary DVD of This Is It with the unseen rehearsals ("Stranger in Moscow," "Dangerous," a walkthrough of "Will You Be There," perhaps a couple band rehearsals). I'd absolutely love that.

Would be great. - I wanna see way more footage of MJ interacting with the band - how they rehearsed together - sound checks - like the footage before TWYMMF.

It is very common that media and the public alike will acknowledge a celebrity passing at the 10 year mark. I still think it's a fair question to ask.
