I'd like to hear more about that stat!

Number Ones is the longest charting 21st century album in the UK?

Does this mean just adding up every stream of a song on an album? 500 million isn't that much, DSTYGE and rock with you are responsible for almost 400 million streams by themselves.
I take it for HIStory the greatest hits disc isn't counted otherwise it would surely be tops

500 million isn't that much for a 1970s album? Lol!

According to following list, which was done is November 2018, Off The Wall was the 22nd most streamed album of the 1970s. I suspect it has gone up since.

Actually that list enhances my opinion imo. While Off the wall is often cited by respected press to be among the 100 greatest albums of all time I now find out that 21 albums of the 70s have actually had more streams, this includes albums that are not quite classics imo. F.e. Lynyrd Skynyrd twice and Queen's Jazz.
If I was asked before knowing this I would have thought OTW to be in the top 10 seventies albums.

Either way I think this isn't a very representative way of finding out which albums are popular. If you have one superhit you're bound to be very high. Thriller for example would be above off the wall based on Billie Jeans streams alone.

This list only shows the 70s albums with the most streams on spotify. This doesn't necessarily mean the most popular albums so you are right in saying that an album with a superhit like Journey's Don't Stop Believing or Toto's Africa will normally have higher streams.

Since you mentioned Thriller, below is a list of the most streamed 80s albums from the same website. This list is from November 2018, so it isn't up to date.

Re: the 70s albums. For clarification, does the album itself need to be selected and played by the person streaming? Ie. if someone plays Don't Stop Til You Get Enough from Number Ones, does it count?

I would imagine that the ton of greatest hits sets that exist for MJ dilute his overall individual album streams.

I'm not entirely sure, but I do believe that if a version of a song that is released on an album is then released on a greatest hits album, that counts towards the album steams, even if the song is played from the greatest hits album and not the actual studio album that it was initially released on.

It's just, for talkings sake, I remember the version of Don't Stop on Number Ones being tagged with (2003 edit) or something along those lines. Obviously it's not the exact same track that exists on Off The Wall - neither in name nor length.

100,000 units in just 4 months. Wow amazing!

Given that Thriller normally sells a lot more during the Halloween period, I can easily see Thriller selling 300,000 units in US during 2020.

I often wonder what Dangerous and HIStory sell these days. It's kind of a shame that all the compilation albums take away sales of regular studio albums

Janet's fans got Control back into the top 10, how have we not co-ordinated ourselves to do that for Michael?
