Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

Since it's already decided, I just hope Sunset Driver and Got the Hots have been revised and mastered again. TUC has crap mastering, the whole thing is loud to the point of clipping and so are Got the Hots and Carousel from T25.
Also, if the theory that Hot Street was once part of the album before it had to be trimmed down, it's gonna be here surely.

I know the Estate doesn't have everything that was ever recorded but they are surely holding back material once again.

Lol, so there is a big possibility that we will only get one truly unheard song from this project? Wow. Ok
It is overreacting imo you and nobody else has ever heard the vocals and music for the toy and we have never heard the original music track for behind the mask either (I assume the vocals will be the same as on "Michael"). So it is 2,5 new tracks :p

whats really disappointing is that we will very likely NOT get both Hot Street and Niteline onto this release!

but: CGOTR
i wish there was at least a less annoying Early Demo version of this Wiz song

Shameful. Expecting us to pay 25 $ for like two new songs. I hope this product doesn't sell. Then maybe they'll realize they have to cater to fans instead of trying to fool casuals into buying another copy of Thriller for mom's Christmas stocking.
“I don’t know the entire track list yet but I already know I want the album to fail. Even though another failed reissue might cause them to stop doing things altogether.” Jesus, you have such a pessimistic outlook of everything and anything. Let’s just wait until we see the whole product before we start writing it off. It’s still miles better than every other reissue MJ ever did, imperfect as it is.

It looks like my King Of Pop CD2 already contains 20-30% of what Thriller 40 CD2 will have and having there Say Say Say and We are the World solo version it is even better.
Sad.

I feel like this is a good opportunity to mention that Got The Hots sounds much better in the original japanese Thriller 25 release, the versions found on King Of Pop compilations are even louder and more compressed, don't expect too much though, Thriller 25 mastering is still ass, just not as bad as KoP.
Now if i was you, i honestly wouldn't expect anything from the mastering of Thriller 40th. Best case scenario would be it NOT being worse than Thriller 25 haha

If Teddy Riley's hint that the Estate/Sony are putting together another posthumous album is true, then Thriller40's current compilation and withholding of songs is fine by me. Yeah, I wouldn't put Can't Get Outta The Rain on Thriller 40, and I wouldn't put Sunset Driver on it either (vibe-wise, it's not Thriller to me). But if the album re-release after the fiasco around LN puts MJ back in a positive public light (Thriller is too big to cancel) the chances of a positive public reception of another posthumous album also increase. This is under the premise that the Estate/Sony show a little creativity in the promotion of Thriller40 (and possibly release a single from it, provided that e.g. "What a lovely way to go" is strong enough).

We basically know what every song on CD 2 will be by now. But hey, if paying 25 bucks for a playlist of songs you already own and could burn on a CD right now is your thing, go for it.

Disappointed. They better release some info in the booklet to back up that recording date.

Also, Bill Bottrell said that the first track he ever did for Michael was State Of Shock Demo with Freddie and we know and it's been confirmed that that demo was recorded in 1983! So how can Bill mix something for Michael in 1982 if he did his first ever job for him in 1983! They are lying about this one for sure!

Eh, rather than lying i just think they don't care enough to actually write something coherent in their social media posts.

If remaining 4 songs aren't Hot Street, Nite Line, Starlight and Carousel, they are crazy! Those are for sure REAL Thriller album outtakes considered for inclusion on the actual album. Not some random Thriller era songs, The Wiz mixes or songs for some random movie. CRAZY!

Not sure where you live but the CD copy of Thriller 40 in the USA is $14.

Can’t Get Outta The Rain

…it looks like these will be the last 4. If not then they got some ‘splaining to do. Can’t Get Outta The Rain should be on the digital edition to make more room for a song like Starlight but at this rate I can’t see that song on this…unless they couldn’t clear something with a songwriter for some oddball reason.

if we don't support this reissue the estate won't give us any new material and that would be the worst thing so support the reissue i'm honestly glad that we finally get new material at all because for a long time it sounded like the estate would not releasing anything new at all, so I'm really relieved and happy that they're feeding us unreleased stuff again and it would be a mistake not to support the new edition because if it doesn't matter, nothing new will be released at all and that would be really depressing and you can really say that they don't do this reissue badly they said from the beginning that there will also be rarities with new stuff so i'm happy we get the toy, behind the mask original demo and what a lovely way to go a completely unheard song and 4 songs are still to be revealed

Songs get mixed after they were recorded. It’s entirely possible that the mix Bill did was from the Bad sessions.

I’d also like some concrete answers regarding its recording date, but I’m a little amused that the burden of proof isn’t on whoever is claiming it isn’t a Thriller outtake. I’m not gonna blindly follow the estate, but until contrasting proof emerges, I’m gonna stick with the 1982 date.

Just re-listened Sunset Driver after a very long time as I don't like the song (much better song than Got The Hots though) and it screams Off The Wall/The Wiz era all over it. Maybe Triumph. But doesn't sound like anything on Thriller or worked for Thriller.

Also, Bottrell mixing it in 1982 is impossible.

I’d also like evidence of its recording date, but not just from the Estate—from everyone who is insisting that it was recorded earlier. The burden of proof is on everyone here.
I believe Bill mixed it. But for sure not in 1982. For Bad, maybe yeah. It was also worked on for Dangerous and it became Blood On The Dancefloor. But the version on TUC doesn't sound like Thriller, Bad or Dangerous era.

No, absolutely not 1982. Likely later.

People were convinced that “Slave to the Rhythm” was from 2003, that the released vocal on “Best of Joy” was recorded in the 1990s, that the released version of “Much Too Soon” was from the Thriller era, that “For All Time” was written during the Thriller sessions, blah blah blah. What a song “sounds like” isn’t a good indicator of when it was actually made.

Also, you’re mixed up here. MJ only allegedly sang a couple lines of “Sunset Driver” on a “Blood on the Dance Floor” demo. They aren’t the same song.

Really weird they're trying to say it was written for Thriller when it definitely wasn't. As someone who feels accurate history is important it's incredibly disheartening to see them lying about small stuff like this, stuff there's not even a reason to lie about.

Oh my God why are some of you craving the inclusion of HS and NL so much? They've been heard by us for countless years, just do a YouTube search and you'll easily find them. Give me NEW, unheard stuff - like Chicago 1945 or some other song we have no idea about their existence. I can't understand you who like to pretend that some songs have never leaked.
