Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

Someone on superdeluxeedition.com said that this release proves Thriller was a victim of its own success, and honestly I see where he's coming from. Obscure albums like Queen's "The Miracle" (which I didn't even know existed until its remaster was announced) get great releases, while the big fish like "Thriller" are botched to all hell. The Estate is just too high off of Michael's success to put any real effort into filling up and maintaining their archives, and as a result are far too lazy to actually try. The last time they did was Bad 25, and the remixes still were a product of laziness.

And remember how Xscape's release ended up being ruined by APWOON's terrible release? Branca and McClain seriously need to consider getting successors, because they don't really know how to actually run an estate.
100%

I really like it. It is simply a rough demo, if you expected a better production.
I don’t have an issue with the production, I just dislike the songwriting. I don’t care for The Jacksons much, and it sounds very much in line with their earlier self-written music. It definitely gives off the vibe of MJ still figuring out how to write music. But that’s just me! I’m glad you like it!

I see, so you do not like the lyrics. But what about the musically idea behind? You do not like the beatboxing etc.?

Anyway, this song reminds me a lot of another song. Especially the refrain, anyone can help?

I just stripped "who do you know"....... its a drum kit added. That's why it sounds so modern. Once i took that drumkit off.... his finger snaps are very very loud & it gives vibes of love never felt so good. Idk why they think we're stupid. Anyway. This sounds way better. Pm for.....

The drums are taken off of what a lovely way to go....idk what the estate is doing but this is just wild

Does it sound like it's from the Thriller era mate?

Honestly, you're right. It was written in 1975, after all. Now why he'd bring it back for Thriller, I don't really know...

The Estate fiddled with this demo too? This makes me worry for any future release, is it really that hard for the Estate to release the demos as they are and not do anything with them???? Goddamn.

When exactly was WALW recorded, if written in 1975?
As the song sounds like an very early Demo, wouldn't it be strange if the demo was recorded only 5-7 years after writing it?

When I first heard the snippet this Carole Bayer Sager penned song came instantly to mind

YESSS! Exactly that one. The song fits the era, this song
was released in 1981. So Michael might have recorded his version after this recording, or any other thoughts? :D

If anyone wants to pm me the leaks feel free, if not then so be it. Thanks anyway.

Who do you know is the only saving grace for me.

Behind the mask
This is just behind the mask with YMO instrumental with weaker drums and MJ breaking into falsetto on some parts instead of going full out.

The Toy
The toy is the exact same as best of joy as far as vocals go but the beat is different and structure is different (odd if you ask me). Best of joy is so superior to this one. I never thought I’d say this but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have minded if I never heard this demo in the first place. I’ll probably never listen to this one again.

What a lovely way to go
Lol I don’t quite know what to say or how to feel about this song. I appreciate the experimental nature of the song but yeah, that’s about it. I did like it more towards the end tho. A very amusing track. Unfortunately something I never will listen to again.

It is nice to have She’s trouble in HQ.
In theory, this is a nice compilation, if you disregard the controversial aspects of this release such as releasing officially released songs, artwork etc. But content wise? This is the weakest MJ release ever, quality and content wise. People gonna think MJ was a bad writer haha. Just kidding of of course but I do hope people enjoy this though, don’t let me rain on your parade

Arthur's Theme was released in 1981 - same year C.B.S.' album "sometimes late at night" was released (MJ participated on the song just friends)

Tempted to cave in and listen to the leaks. It sounds like the poor sound quality will spoil this release

Gets even worse. Some fans have spoken to Amazon who've said their estimated delivery is the 21st for hard copies, so fans will get them the 22nd at the earliest.

This has to be a joke..

The album was repeatedly declared sold out in many countries on Amazon at regular intervals. After a while it was again on stock and then again sold out, for example in Germany. But it was only about 50 on the chart-list. How comes something like this. Doesn`t Amazon decide how many albums they want to stock?

I can confirm. My cd copy of T40 should now arrive on 11/23😡

"What a lovely way to go" sounds like as if Freddie Mercury wrote the song. Although its a demo, its the best of the 10, in my opinion - what a shame that "got the hots" was already known (beside the other leaks)

8,5/10 for me, for the Song.

Where the eff is "hot street/slapstick" :(
