i suspect the same treatment as the Bad Wembley DVD. Because of the awful quality of the concert, they had to reduce the quality of TWYMMF at the end. Other wise the difference would make everyone return the dvd,

Same here, some tracks are taken from degraded tapes and they just made the entire album sound bad, even though some were realised in much better quality before. You can't follow a crystal clear sounding song like Got the hosts with Behind the mask from a broken tape.

that’s my take on it - the older demos I’m fine with sounding as rough as they do

The previously released and leaked (starlight) tracks tho…. They have no business sounding as bad as they do
 
I still have not been able to find the leaks. - So now I will wait till they are released on iTunes.
I am devastated to hear people say the mastering is so terrible.

I had really been looking forward to hearing the leaked songs in crystal clear HQ... - I had especially been looking forward to Starligt in good quality, and it seems that song is the worst of the bunch...

I will hear the album tomorrow on my BOSE system, and I pray Apple Digital Master has done some magic and it hopefully sounds good - or at least better than what people here describe... From all reviews here the sound quality does not sound promising.

I am looking so much forward to hear the new songs. Who Do You Know gets a lot of praise. So I have high hopes for that one.

Yeah I still don’t believe it’s real - starlight sounds as if the disc is scratched and skipping, is how I’d describe it. I think iTunes is our best hope but we find out tomorrow. Who Do You Know is the best of the bunch and arguably too good for this release hahaha

I haven’t tried it but I assume even listening to an old YT rip of carousel or Can’t Get Out Of The Rain would be better

Itunes has always had the best audio quality from what I've been told. You can't ever go wrong with that one.


For some reason I do just enjoy it here. I think for casual audio usage, mobile phones and Bluetooth headphones, it's gonna be just fine. But there's better audiophile options.

Or it could've been made right after Off The Wall released. For whatever hypothetical follow up, though not exactly Thriller. Then it is technically a Thriller demo.

the fact they tell you is from thriller is the best clue that is not lol. + obviously the voice, the instruments, randy, etc..

and almost forgot, Mexico trial MJ says is before Off the wall

He said he WROTE it before OTW. He did not say anything about when he was recording the track, that had been discussed before already.

You can easily find them on twitter if you search for the #Thriller40 hashtag.

I for myself haven't dl'ed them. The first uploaded snippet videos on twitter were sounding really awful. I'll listen to them on streaming tonight. Maybe they'll sound a little better than the leaked snippets.

You are correct but still it’s fairly obvious. MJ stopped doing those vocal tricks that he does on LWTG after 78. At least to me it’s very obvious that this is a pre 78 recording.
 
Does anyone have lyrics to Who Do You Know and WALWTG ? :)
 
I got the leaks - listening to Who Do You Know - in my opinion it sounds great. I can't complain about the quality of the audio.
The song itself is relaxing and beautiful. - What a great song. Sounds vocally complete to me. Fingersnaps.

The drum machine might could have been turned down a little, but I really love it.

So this qobuz "mystery" is also solved. They took the preview, that was online for the last few months, down & now replaced it with the official release.
And I inquired about the takedowns via their twitter handle... Now I'm feeling stupid & impatient!

This forum is a mess! MJ fans are really their own worst enemies!

I really hope the digital version is better. I am listening to Starlight right now - a cd rip I guess. - It's not good. It's like hearing an old vinyl with dust and scratches... Hope they have cleaned it up on the Apple Digital Master.
