Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

I wanted to say the same but with Sunset Driver, CGOOTR and WALWTG ending up on Thriller 40 anything is possible lol.

That one was (allegedly) worked on for Thriller at the very least. Same with Sunset Driver and CGOOTR.
We've never heard Sunset Driver from 1978. It's probably radically different. This song has always been from 1982 as we know it and MJ The Experience was never a good indicator for chronology of songs lol.

There is no evidence that “Sunset Driver” was written or recorded in 1978, other than fan rumors and subjective opinions. The version we have was recorded in 1982 and mixed by Bill Bottrell during the Bad sessions.

I will die on this hill!

Will surprise me if they wrote and recorded such a dated sounding song specifically for Thriller. It definitely existed before then imo, even if the version we have was recorded for Thriller (something I'm not really debating either way as I've stopped caring lol).

There's a whole book section about it! On the record.

Yes, but the only books that cite it are also filled with incorrect information. I guess at the end of the day it doesn’t matter, but there’s no standing confirmation or reliable info to say otherwise.

If the Jackson brothers actually did Victory 40 and didn't add any new tracks sung by Michael I wouldn't be bothered, Imo the best songs of that album are songs that Michael doesn't sing or barely sings at all.
All they'd have to do to satisfy me is release all the demoes of final tracklist, even to the songs that aren't MJ. And maybe add the Victory Toilet Seat Rhythm, like that Bumper Snippet from Dangerous SE. Otherwise, what else is there, Buffalo Bill? Lol, imagine. No new songs needed there.

Hot take! I think Victory is completely forgettable with the exception of “Torture” and “Be Not Always.” I feel like ignoring Michael on a reissue would be a recipe for failure.
