What is your favorite thing about your least favorite song?

Any track pre dangerous getting mentioned is pure witchcraft imo. He sounded so fresh and vibrant and lively back in those days. Some songs might not be all that special but the way he sings them makes them special.
Girlfriend and the girl is mine are prime examples of this for me. I also love the atmospheres these songs have, they almost feel related. Girlfriend is MJ having an affair with Paul’s girl and TGIM is both arguing about it. Girlfriend feels so playful musically and vocally which fits the lyrics so well. In TGIM Paul doesn’t quite realize yet how far the affair has gone, he lost her to Michael but he doesn’t realize it yet. He plays the game along with a laid back sleepy vibe and with an air of “nothing bad can happen”. Because of this they’re both vocally still playful.

Liberian girl is MJ’s sex song, it feels lusty and sweaty Thanks to Michael’s soft almost whispering vocals. In the closet is straight up porno.

And this is how I derail the thread and turn it into describe what you love about Michael’s songs!
Forgive me @Mister_Jay_Tee I will stop doing what I do now 😁

The disrespect for Liberian Girl in this thread is making me question the meaning of life 😅

Don't Walk Away, the adlibbing towards the end of the track, "I won't forget your girl, I won't forget you girl, I won't forget you girl"

His vocals sound almost Dangerous era in those adlibs

It doesn't make me question the meaning of life but it does make me question my own taste, or lack of taste? In my ears it is the best song on Bad together with another part of me and dirty diana.

Michael's falsetto on this song is super effective, the harmonizing of all the lines together create such a beautiful effect.
Interestingly in 2003 Q magazine selected it in its 1001 best songs of all time list.

I'm derailing the thread again so I better shut up

What does processed mean In terms of music production?
Nothing
JK, the sound they're talking about is a guitar sound patch that comes from a random synth from the 90s, so it's not a real guitar that was heavily processed, it's just a virtual guitar.

Ah yes I thought something like that. I hate it it feels cheap. I have always been somewhat surprised that an artist like MJ who grew up and was in the business during the good old days of the late 60s to early 80 ditched real instruments for synthesized sounds.
I think most of this comes from the fact that MJ wasn’t able to play himself but he could dabble around on keyboards and drum machines

Liberian Girl is, one of the best songs on Bad. That's facts.

And I'm tired of people not enjoying the synthetic noise of Bad. I mean, I get it, and it took me a while to warm up to it, but like, I'm enlightened. I get it now entirely. It's honestly a great highlight. The 80s sound is totally in anyway.

My favourite thing about my least favourite songs is that they are still in Michael's voice :) The only song that really come to mind is Girlfriend, its just weird.
I am also not a big fan of Liberian Girl, but I think its got less to do with the song itself, but that it reminds me of something though I can't really put a finger on what that something is. (I know! I sound crazy to me too!)

No! Yes!!!

I know what you mean. I do!

so its official both liberian girl and the girl is mine our MJ’s worst ever tracks, true turds!
Hey, hang on! I didn't slag off LG and it's certainly not a turd. It's a good song. I just don't find it all that interesting and my attention wanders. That's all.

Are you stirring the pot, f&m? Sometimes I just can't tell with you, lol.

Woah, woah, hold your horses. There’s no randomness to these sounds. They are of the highest quality, Michael wouldn’t have it any other way.

I hate it it feels cheap.
It’s nothing but! Michael never settled for anything less but the best. The creative use of samples is something that defined the new jack swing of Dangerous, but really, with Michael you can trace it back even further, to the heavy Synclavier use on Bad (both the album and tour).

In this context, it’s a sliced up sample of a few guitar notes (most probably a real guitar, by the way!), treated with a healthy dose of audio effects (chorus, EQ etc.)... compressor is overused these days, but seeing as the Invincible sessions were supervised by Mr. Swedien I would think it hardly ever was needed.

Many fans have always been somewhat surprised (if not annoyed) that an artist like Michael Jackson who grew up and was in the business during the good old days of the late '60s to early '80 ditched real instruments for synthesized sounds.

Especially, when the 'This Is It' film was released, when they heard how much better the 'Threatened' brief snippet sounded with real musical instruments, compared to the synthesized/computerized sound of the album's version of that song.
BOTDF - All the remixes: No comment. The Earth Song remix is alright but it's weird that they made a song that's supposed to be about raising environmental awareness into a club song lol.
One can say that it is also weird that they also made 'Stranger In Moscow' into a club song.

'Stranger In Moscow' refers to the singer's recent and very sad events in his personal life at that time, and turning that song into a club song makes the original song automatically lose its lyrical credibility.

If you people keep shitting on my fave songs they become turds! But I love those turds 😝

HIStory - D.S. - the guitar is OK.
Invincible - Privacy - Nathan East on bass, I believe. Also the string arrangements are good.
I will say Zinnia, those picks were kinda unexpected! Perhaps I need to get to know your tastes a bit better, lol.

Not gonna create my own post in this thread, since the very concept of a "least favorite MJ song" does not exist in my mind.

Nor in mine. But I can't get enough of people hating Invincible.

Though I can give least favorite status at least to Rockin Robin.

i'm not mad when i say this i just like swearing.
The fuck u talking about lol

I said random synth because i forgot the name of the actual synth.

I’m pretty sure that’s not a synth.

Michael - Keep Your Head Up: You can tell that the song sounds like (or rather tell that it's a complete rip-off lmao) a mix of Keep The Faith and Earth Song.

Xscape (Original) - Blue Gangsta: Not that I hate it but the fact that there was a better, more complete version of the song available and the Estate didn't use it is baffling to me. I guess what I like about it most still is Dr Freeze's background vocals?

Xscape (Remix) - Xscape: I would've picked APWNN because why would they make a song that's meant to be a cover of A Horse With No Name into an electronic song, but the remix on it's own (without the vocals) sounds pretty good so it saves it from being my least favorite, Xscape on the other hand sounds like a full downgrade of it's original version. The bridge sounds cool at least, I'll give it that much.

Girlfriend too, right? Lol. Maybe just any song with "girl" in the title? There's a pattern! 🤔 🤣

"Turd" was apparently an affectionate nickname LMP had for Michael, and he'd sign notes to her with it, lol. So, it's totally OK to love a turd! Facts, lol. 😂
