Which song was Michael going to sing live in This is It

The difference between his public appearances on stage from the early 80s compared with his final 20 years are night and day and I wanna know why. He was relaxed and full of confidence when James Brown or Diana Ross called him on stage, in his later career he almost refuses to sing one line when someone asks him to sing something. He always came up with the same bullshit “I’m sparing my voice”… give me a break, something was very wrong in his head I just don’t know what. I think it has something to do with his failed plastic surgery.
You really tried to throw in some personal jabs at our hero just because he as an entertainer doesn't always wanna be made to perform like a monkey on command. If MJ don't wanna sing he don't gotta freaking sing. Let the man show up for his award. As for lip syncing, he had already paid his due and it sounded good, you can squeak about it like the other old timers. Doesn't stop most others doing it.

When you're on awards shows they pretty much make you lip sync.

If you're hoarse as a chain smoker, don't sing live.

@Mister_Jay_Tee Just give it up, I will never accept the greatest artist of all time as a lip syncer. Also stop posting that BJ video it is freaking embarrassing.

There will always be different standards among us fans. Imo it is ridiculous people agree to lip syncing. He sang all the time, he sang in the studio, he sang at home, he sang since he was 6. I can’t think of anyone more experienced than MJ he should have worked it out. I often sensed this reluctance to sing live. When someone shoved a mic under his nose unprepared you could see him growing insecure. Where the hell did that come from?

The last time he slayed it unprepared was at the Oprah Winfrey interview. One of my favorite ever “performances” come from a short an interview, that says a lot.
"That says a lot" you mean he want a good singer ?

No the opposite, it means that I have to return to 20sec of a cappella singing to enjoy his live singing because there is almost nothing else to enjoy ( regarding live vocals of songs post bad album).
In an ideal world there would be tons of live vocals available on youtube.
It’s a shame that his most covered and widely available concerts are all from a time he didn’t sing live any more.
On top of that the vocals from the Munich show that have surfaced last year plus all the mimed shows that are already on youtube could be detrimental for his legacy.

If his voice was so good during this is it why would he even want the option of playback. Just ask your background singers to take over when necessary or to hide some half hit notes or bend the notes so that you can reach them. Hell just don’t sing the damn note and do a funky improvised move instead if you don’t feel comfortable. He was a pro, reading stuff like this makes me mad. His approach to concerts was infuriating to me.

As much as playback is cheating, re recording vocals to playback to is double as offensive to me. Just go out there and prove you can sing, if you can record albums while jumping around in the recording booth then you can do that on stage too. Self believe was important for Michael, he always believed he would become an international star, he believed he could make thriller the greatest album ever but apparently he didn’t believe he was able to sing live on stage. Weird very weird.

He had nothing left to prove. And rerecording stuff, instead of using 20 year old CDs would have been a good way to give people something new, a live feel and still dance while singing. And it's pretty obvious that he wasn't happy with out of breath singing, hence the playback.

He had nothing left to prove.
So renowed surgeons should put also put a stop to doing surgeries, since they also have nothing left to prove?
Or a proffesional lawyer should stop taking cases?Same for a cop?
He had to do his job as a singer, with or without having something to prove

What a ridiculous comparison. He wasn't a surgeon or a lawyer. But whatever. Yes. He had nothing left to prove. Also he wasn't just a singer. He also was a dancer.

Michael Prince said that MJ wanted to sing live as much as possible on This Is It. Some songs would be 100% live while other songs would be a mix of live and lip sync.. For example the verses to a song would be live but the chorus would be lip synced or vice versa. And I'm sure lots of live adlibs would be thrown in as well.

That's interesting and probably the best way to go, I wonder if (aside from time restraints) That's why a lot of songs weren't going to have a second or third verse

I don't mind Beat It or Black Or White getting condensed for time, but I'd hope songs like Smooth Criminal, Human Nature and Billie Jean wouldn't have been

I think the reason why some songs were condensed was because that way more songs could be added to the setlist. I'm sure the more popular songs (Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean etc) would be played in full

Yeah that makes sense when you see the planned set list. Knowing Mike he'd 2 and a half minutes of some songs and still do an 8 minute version of Heal The World 😅
