Get On The Floor instead of Off The Wall
Human Nature instead of Thriller
Smooth Criminal instead of BAD
Jam instead of Dangerous
Scream instead of HIStory
Ghosts instead of Blood On The Dance Floor
Unbreakable instead of Invincible

If you had to change the title track from each album which new title track would you choose?

Girlfriend instead of Off The Wall
The Girl Is Mine instead of Thriller
Just Good Friends instead of BAD
Can't Let Her Get Away instead of Dangerous
Come Together instead of HIStory
HIStory instead of Blood On The Dance Floor
You Are My Life instead of Invincible

OTW- I Can't Help It
Thriller- Human Nature
Bad- Man In The Mirror
Dangerous- Give In To Me
HIStory- They Don't Care About Us
BOTDF- Is It Scary
Invincible- Whatever Happens (Should have been the actual title track IMO)

Okay, so if it had to be changed, I’d go for

Off the Wall: I Can’t Help It
Thriller: Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’
Bad: Another Part of Me
Dangerous: Who Is It?
HIStory: 2 Bad
Blood on the Dance Floor: Is It Scary?
Invincible: Whatever Happens

OTW - Get On The Floor
Thriller - P.Y.T. (I don't like the song but love this as an alternative title)
Bad - wouldn't change this one
Dangerous - Keep The Faith
HIStory - Scream
BOTDF - Ghosts
Invincible - Whatever Happens

The only album title that could have been different was Smile for HIStory

After the tough 2 years Michael could have chosen that as the title showing he still had his positive atitude. He was not beaten down after the allegations. He still saw beauty in the world. Life is still worthwile.

No Behind the Mask 8? Pitiful on MJ’s part.
Well the Estate just didn't respect his wishes. Even though they literally sampled MJ saying "I want my next album to be called Behind the Mask 8, and also John Branca deserves jail."

I was so up for this. Went back and forth between this and Scream, couldn't decide, flung Scream into the mix just to get the thing finished.

Exactly so. Even though I went for Scream and even though it makes sense for much of the content of the album I did think Smile was a better message and more 'Michael'.

That said, I did want something a bit more forceful and defiant. Plus, it's just a harmless fantasy so it doesn't really matter. I don't kid myself that my choices are better than Michael's. Not even close, lol.

Off-topic but I always liked it when a band gave an album a name and it wasn't one of the songs on the album. I love that. I always wanted to see more of that.

Dangerous - Keep The Faith
That would not have been a good idea.

People would confuse it with the 'Keep The Faith' album, which was released (around that time) by the American rock band Bon Jovi.

'HIStory' is fine as the title track from that album because it is also a play on words (i.e., his story, which includes his classic hits and also his brand new songs).

'Scream' would have been too aggressive as the title track, and 'Smile' would have been too soft as the title track.

Besides, it would have been unwise of him to call the album with a cover song ('Smile').

I disagree.

From the Cambridge Dictionary:

" Fantasy: noun: imagined situation - a pleasant situation that you enjoy thinking about but is unlikely to happen or the activity of imagining things ..."

Bon Jovi are one of my bands and since this is MY fantasy I will simply get my guys to change the name of their album. Bon Jovi's album came out in November 1992 so that's easily dealt with.

We all know this.

'Scream' would have been too aggressive as the title track
It's a fantasy so it doesn't really mean anything.

, and 'Smile' would have been too soft as the title track.
Ditto.

It's not real life. It's a fantasy. I wasn't actually Michael's manager or advisor or anything. We're all just daydreaming here.

And on the other hand I hate it when bands just have nameless albums. What.s your fave album? The one with the black cover!

Sorry, but I've got to post this, lol.

From This Is Spinal Tap, the scene where they are looking at the cover of their next album:

Nigel Tufnel : It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

Back on topic, I really wanted APOM to be my alternative title for Bad but I'm not sure if it would work even in a fantasy, lol. Madonna did it in 2012 with MDNA. Maybe 1987 would be just a bit too soon for this kind of move. But, ngl, I like the idea!

OTW - Rock with You

Bad - Speed Demon

‘Smile’ is also the name of that notorious Beach Boys album that never got released.

In reality, they don’t stay nameless for long. Somehow people settle on what to call it – it’s an interesting subject, really! Although, it ain’t terribly creative, from what I’ve seen. The color of the front artwork coupled with a lazy noun ‘album’ seems to be the standard.

Off The Wall - Burn This Disco Out
Thriller - Wanna Be Starting Something
Bad - Man In The Mirror
Dangerous - Black or White
History - They Don't Care About Us
Blood On The Dance Floor - Ghosts
Invincible - Unbreakable

if you think that’s pitiful, then why no Behind The Mask 9?
The Behind The Mask Series was completed by MJ during his lifetime. That canon is complete. These new albums are not Behind The Mask. They're more so tributes.

Burn This Disco Out
Beat It
Another Part Of Me
Jam
This Time Around
2000 Watts

In all seriousness, my favorite thing about MJ's (Studio) albums is that they all have a one word album title, with an edge factor no less. So taking that away just hurts me significantly. And making soft sounding names like Girlfriend and Baby Be Mine is equally painful in my kidneys.

Off The Wall and Blood On The Dancefloor are not one word album titles..?

Blood on the Dance Floor is not a studio album.

As for OTW, you got me there, but I'm talking Post Thriller obviously. Ben funny enough is also a one word title lol.

Maybe I'll change the Motown albums to be one word names..
