The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Ngl I'm really jealous of fans who live in the U.S for being able to do stuff like this more easily, if I were to do it the whole trip would be around the thousands and I don't know if I'd be willing to do that and travel miles away just to hear some songs that I'll only hear once in my life. Same goes for the MJ Musical and MJOne. Lucky bastards got everything around their corner lol.

Just out of curiosity, if you have to email the copyright offices ahead of time, they must have to tell you if a tape you requested is in their possession or not right?

So if there are songs that we're not sure exist, the copyright offices could give an indication.
You can only request iten that are listed in their catalogue(s).

Over the years he's been one of the most significant sources of info (if not the most) for these unreleased titles in the MJ community, he literally shares his info and that isn't taunting.
People ask questions, and he literally goes and digs up the actual notes he had written down for the songs and shares what he knows with the MJ community for free. Keep in mind he put tons of time, effort, and money into conducting the research that he did.
Don't get us wrong, we are really thankful. All we say is that it would be better if he shared the information via an article in his website. Collect them all together with details and stuff (Dates, how complete they are etc.)

I’m wondering how many people have actually done that, not many fans share info so there can’t be many who’ve put up the effort.

Yeah we are grateful for all the info he's been giving, it's just that a lot of the times he gives very scarce info or straight up ignores questions and it becomes irritating. It's best if he put everything he has on his website so no one has to keep flooding him with tweets. His articles on I Am A Loser and Days In Gloucestershire are very detailed and I would love to read more articles like those, especially for songs that are unknown to us.

I would've done this already if I lived there, if not at least 2 times. I always found it odd how "almost" no one has done it and shared their information on them. There are many well of MJ fans over there as well.

Yeah, let me just hop in my car (hypothetical) and drive to Washington DC, over, 7 hours away. Or get a plane ticket for an admittedly reasonable 84 dollars (economical). It's only 3 days worth of meals. Michaels half finished demoes he probably didn't want me to hear are worth it.

Because America is just that easy.

7 hours suppose to be super far or something? That's nothing, haha.

It's all about priorities and how much you really want it. 84 dollars plane ticket for a distance worthy of 7 hours drive? Pretty cheap

I don't really want it. Lol

I mean, I do, and I would. I'm just busy and I got more important places to go to first.

That's interesting, so is their catalogue viewable or do you have to get in touch with them and they show you the catalogue?

I only ask because it's fascinating but a bit daunting to think there is a vault of tracks available, where do you begin without a guide of some form?

Seems easy compared to taking a passport, a travel visa, paying hundreds for a plane ticket, flying for almost an entire day, go to a country you've never been in, just to listen to a few songs.

He's a journalist. It's his job to inform people. I agree that technically he doesn't have to tell people anything but if he's already at it, why not go all the way?
He's not a full-time journalist. And "going all the way" requires time and effort.

Yeah, it’s kinda crazy to me that he could single handedly right countless wrongs that have been circulating for years, but just… doesn’t. That’s a more valuable contribution than continuing on with the Cascio tracks. Obviously nobody is required to do anything, but why spend thousands visiting the US Copyright Office and taunting people with info if you aren’t going to do anything with it?
You’ll get the usual Shields nut riders reply to this but the fact of the matter is, if he does this, no one has any use for him anymore or his articles.

This is a guy who will promote LN as long as it negatively mentions the Cascio tracks. No one cares anymore, they aren’t on the album.

If he gives all info on the unreleased songs, no one would bother to keep updated with his books etc.

If he already has the notes in hand, all he has to do is say all that's written on it. It also shouldn't be that time-consuming to write an article, it wouldn't be like writing an entire book. In fact that's what he was planning to do with all the info, until he decided to focus on a podcast about the Cascio tracks for the last 4-5 years instead.

It's WAAAY easier. If all you have to spare is a few hundreds of dollars and a road trip I say it's well worth doing it.
I mean, it's cheaper than Brad Sundberg'e stuff, and yet I am willing to go for that. It's about the external factors. It would be nice to not have to pay 84 dollars to hear Michael Jackson songs, and yet. Idk. One day with the right amount of factors.

You did forget to factor in the costs of these archive searches. Pretty pricey.

I am counting those, assuming you don't request for old tapes it probably won't be as expensive. I'd totally spend 400-500$ on the whole trip, but if it goes for more than that... Yikes lol.

$500 to hear mostly mumbling lol

It's his choice to do what he wants with the info he put his time, effort, and money into obtaining. Like JC said he doesn't own anyone anything. I can't believe people are complaining that he answers their questions but not as much as they'd like him to, he could've just sat on all this info fans wanted to know and kept them in the dark, but he was kind to share his findings and take requests from people to answer their specific questions (which i haven't seen anyone do to the extent Damien has).
He WAS going to use the info he got and put it in a book, he always intended on sharing it with the public, but then he shifted focus into his Faking Michael podcast and he's been working on it for at least 6 years. Who knows when he's going to finish the podcast and if he's even going to continue writing the book? And if he does, how long would that take? Why wait when you can end any misinformation that's been surrounding the songs for years in an instant? There's no reason for him to hold back info if he's not going to be using it anytime soon.

Kind of. It's a latin beat, dance song that talks about environmental issues. It's the only song along with I'm Dreamin' that Will confirmed to have been recorded by MJ. I think he also said the song was like a "contemporary Off The Wall" but I can't remember where I read that.

I think one of the 3 songs they showed on the Access Hollywood interview is The Future, it sounds similar to the description will.i.am gave.

I don't know, you'd asssume that a federal institution would be heavily secured so I think that's really unlikely. A lot of those leaks comes from songs that were bought from auctions or shown on seminars.
It’d explain how songs that haven’t been played at seminars, and aren’t known to be circulating amongst collectors seemingly get leaked, though.

I don't believe that is how it works at the office. Iirc someone who has been said that you can only play things through headphones although I can't confirm this. Most CDQ leaks came from the Sony hack or old cds/tapes that got into collectors hands such as the dangerous bonus cuts disc and the seeing voices tape.
