Finally! I have a book by Boris Akunin - I didn't realise it's a pseudonym - Grigory Chkhartishvili. Anyway, today from a charity shop (Americans call them 'thrift' shops) I bought Murder on the Leviathan. I've read the first few sections and I'm already enjoying it. I flipped through it and it has a really interesting structure. Not necessarily unique - or was it? it was originally published in 1998 - but definitely interesting. There is a tongue-in-cheek tone in the writing which I'm loving. And I definitely want to know 'who-dun-it' or even how or why. lol.Of all the pleasures given to man, the most exquisite is to move his brain. "The Diamond Chariot" by B. Akunin.
It is a deep delusion to believe that an clever man is clever in everything. He is clever in matters that require intelligence, and in matters of the heart, is very, very stupid. "The whole world is a theater", B. Akunin.
thank you for the conversion!them 'thrift' shops

It's nice that you enjoyed it. The author really does write very well. I enjoyed his stories myself. I really sympathize with the main character, Fandorin. A noble gifted young man with a difficult fate. I myself read the books avidly and eagerly awaited the continuation))))))Finally! Interesting that you came across this book in the store. I love these kinds of coincidences))))Finally! I have a book by Boris Akunin - I didn't realise it's a pseudonym - Grigory Chkhartishvili. It's fun so far and, yes, he does write well. It's nice that you enjoyed it. The author really does write very well.
I haven't met him yet.I enjoyed his stories myself. I really sympathize with the main character, Fandorin.
ooh, mysterious!A noble gifted young man with a difficult fate.
Here's mine!Books about Fandorin in order
Here is their list:
"Azazel" (released in 1998).
"Turkish Gambit" (1998)
"Leviathan" (1998)
This title really intrigues me."The Death of Achilles" (1998)
I don't mind reading books in the 'wrong' order. If an author is good, and Akunin clearly is, they can draw you into the story really effectively and you won't feel the loss of those earlier storylines."Special Assignments" (1999)
"The State Counselor" (1999)
"Coronation, or the Last of the Novels" (2000)
"Mistress of Death" (2001)
"Lover of Death" (2001)
"The Diamond Chariot" (2002)
"Yin and Yang" (2005)
"Jade Beads" (2006)
"All the World's Theater" (2009)
"Black City" (2012)
"Planet Water" (2015)
"Not Saying Goodbye" (2018)
"Just Masa" (2020)
Leviathan is not the first book, but that will be a separate story and I think you'll get the hang of it.
I'm a few pages in to meeting Gustave Gauche. I don't know if Akunin is giving us a play on words there. Gauche means 'left' in French, of course, but in English we use the word to describe someone who is unsophisticated and socially awkward. I'm curious to see what Gauche's personality is really like. I can already see that Akunin is showing us that Gauche is - hm, big-headed? Conceited? I'm not sure what word I want here but we are definitely being invited to laugh at Gauche, just a little bit.The books themselves also came out not in chronological order of events. Pleasant emotions from reading)))) it's really fascinating.
It is. I did a trawl through all the local charity shops, couldn't see him, decided to drop it. And then today there was a little display at one of the shops which I just idly glanced at in passing. Saw 'Akunin' written on the cover in really big text! Happy little me!Interesting that you came across this book in the store. I love these kinds of coincidences))))
