No, in all seriousness, babe, I do feel your pain. I only found out about the chalk last year, here on the board. I was truly shocked. I just could not process it at all. It was too mad to be real, or so I thought.

The details, the glossy pages. Glossy ... His stuff is very 90s. It is what i know books to be. and even the images of the cassette. ...all that layout & all the reasons why they did this / preferred this / chosen this over this [ i assume] etc . It looks a good read.

Yeah first thing i noticed actually babe. P. books are of serious high quality. I am not kidding. I have 21 nights [ it's hardcover] and that is a stunning, very unique piece.

I'm slightly confused now, but, whatever. I think the book looks totally now. Very contemporary. I would say it captures Prince's 90's vibe bc of the content of the photos, for example, but I don't think the design of the book places it in the 90's, imo.

Either way, I love it.

It does. I don't want it but those essays / chapters / whatever look like they'll be good. Interesting. Detailed.

I’m getting into the Lovesexy album. Years ago I stopped my Prince discovery at the Sign O The Times album. Not planning on going deeper but Lovesexy has always intrigued me.

In my childhood I had already bought the triple album the hits/the B sides. I was a fan of the Prince stuff heard on the radio and MTV. But Michael blew my interest completely away.
Then about 20 years ago I started opening up for other artists and genres and Prince came back to the surface. So I listened to all his stuff in a couple of months and ended with SOTT. But there were other artists I was also into so he just got to the back of my mind again.
I think he got into view again around 2006 after when Musicology and 3121 were released. And then when he died I gave some attention to the HitnRun albums.

I absolutely don’t plan on going further, his discography is too expansive and I’m past that age where I can become such a big fan that I need to hear everything. Besides that most of the stuff post 80s seems pretty hit and miss. I think after Lovesexy I’ll have his most important stuff covered.

Ah i See, i cancelled him out completely. i was a right cow ~mean little madam to the people at school who liked P.. a cat fight erupted many a time in P.s name. [Wording this as elegantly as i can lol]

Mn see this is all brand spanking new to me his whole discography.I only discovered '7' this week. Which wasn't really expecting what i saw. no wait .... no , Chains of Gold i think ... Some video where he like, well ....changes into the 3 chains .
So far , with what i have seen , he seems to have a dark edge stuff in his artistry. but i might be projecting.

As a kid I was fully aware of the Prince/Jackson rivalry. I had a poster of Prince up first. I remember being in awe of both billie jean and kiss at the same time. I think the videos of The Way You Make Me Feel and Thriller sealed the deal.

Now honestly the rivalry is ridiculous, both artists can’t be further away from each other but till this day it exist. Just look at the comments underneath a prince video on youtube, there is usually a comment how he or the other is better lol

My own opinion. MJ will always be my nr 1 and it is not even close, I like his voice 1000 times better than Prince’s voice BUT I admire Prince’s creativity and his ability to ditch pop to do what he wanted. I kind of hoped Michael would be as prolific, versatile and creative as Prince.

In the end for me it is always about the voice. Prince can come up with the funkiest beats or craziest lyrics but he will never move me like Michael does. This is the main reason why I am not interested to look up the 25 something albums of Prince I never heard lol.

I haven’t mentioned this yet I think but Marvin Gaye is my nr 2
