I wonder when this obsession really started? In 2013-2014 not many people seemed to care that much about unreleased tracks. There was some mild hype over the 1-second snippet of GYWOOM, DIG, POTW and IAAL.That shows how new of a fan he is. I remember the calm era of 2015-2018, with the only thing close to a leak being that video of Brad talking over "Family Thing" snippet.
Mark Ronson's mix of What a Lovely Way To Go has to be out there somewhere.Nothing else is in the hands of the fans atm.

I'd say this craze started just before the full Seeing Voices leak, around 8 years ago. It got worse when Sergie Sainz leaked tons of multitrack sessions and Ghost Of Another Lover. The era of trading on that certain Brazilian forum was terrible, lmao.
I’d say the seminar leaks have definitely pushed the interest of unreleased songs into popularity. It’s also probably because as time passes since MJ died, there’s sort of an interest in terms of preserving what he worked on in his life. I don’t know, I think any kind of thing MJ had a hand in is fairly interesting, especially during post invincible when he wasn’t out in the public as much.I wonder when this obsession really started? Michael Jackson Estate Lawyers Get ‘Stolen’ Studio Tapes Pulled From Auction
Michael Jackson estate lawyers got "stolen" tapes of music studio recordings pulled from an auction website.www.billboard.com
Some news regarding the tapes that got pulled from the auction site, apparently they were illegally stolen and the estate sent them a restraining order and a cease and desist order.
I like this. Not because of their tone but it does kinda highlight how significant MJ songs are![]()

So are these real MJ songs with vocals? Or just writers demos and instrumentals?![]()

Do you think they even know what’s on the tapes? lol.I like this. Not because of their tone but it does kinda highlight how significant MJ songs are
What does that have to do with what I said? I'm talking about Michael Jackson's reputation in the public being as big a deal as can be.Do you think they even know what’s on the tapes? lol.
Oh, ok. I thought you meant that it is important to them, basically insinuating that the tapes might contain his vocals. My bad! What does that have to do with what I said? I'm talking about Michael Jackson's reputation in the public being as big a deal as can be.
That's alright! Easy mistake to make deciphering me lol.Oh, ok. I thought you meant that it is important to them, basically insinuating that the tapes might contain his vocals. My bad!
Not that I've heard about. I know they went after a few people who leaked things online I believe, but never any auctioned items I don't think.Has the Estate done anything like that before to any of the collectors? For example when Korgnex tried to sell the "Golden CD".
Good find but no mention about the particular tracks and if they made the album. For all we know, this could be related to WBSS, Beat It, Billie Jean, etc.I think there might be some (perhaps still unknown to us) fully fleshed out demos made for Thriller that were productionwise on par with TGIM demo
John van Nest in 2009:
I then spent some time in 1980 (or 81?) with Michael recording demo's for Thriller. This was great, because it was just the two of us and whoever Michael had coming in. "John, we have Jonathan Moffit coming at 12:00, then Greg Phillinganes at 1:00...oh, and we're recording strings at 4:00!". Wow, what a great experience working so closely with him. I had him on the mic for some days recording vocals, and it was an amazing experience...he would be dancing up a storm while singing and doing all of those "grunts, oohs, ahhs" vocal sounds that would pepper his tracks. He asked me to take up the carpet so he could dance, and in between takes, he would sing other popular songs of the day just freestyle and acapella and we would talk about the music we liked.
Over the next year or two, I hosted the Jacksons many times, recording various tracks, claps (we had a jacuzzi room which they loved to use for the massive white-noise claps that people liked back then). I got to know all the brothers.
