The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Or he could’ve been playing it to get people to buy the album. “Oh where is this song from?” “It’s from TUC!” “Nice! Let me purchase that”

This the same Michael that told people he took Dirty Diana out of the Wembley setlist out of respect for Princess Diana.

Michael was aware of his actions. He knew the game.
It's also the same Michael that lipsynced to songs from Off The Wall.

For real. How anyone would think he cared about that box set is beyond me. It’s the last thing anyone would care or think about in such a situation.
Exactly. Also, his drug addiction supposedly worsened during this time. I think it’s quite possible he could’ve been under the influence of painkillers when he approved the tracklist (hence why certain songs he didn’t want released were included)- and I don’t blame him for this. He was in a truly terrifying situation.

A lot of people seem to think that MJ was constantly throughout his career making decisions because he was "out of it on drugs" rather than just making some errors when it came to his song selections. Invincible, The Ultimate Collection etc. It's just as likely that MJ saw the Ultimate Collection project as a welcome distraction.

We can't pick and choose between when MJ was a shrewd businessman who scrutinised every decision vs. a man struggling with addiction who didn't know what he was doing when the result doesn't satisfy us.

I'm still waiting for a source that MJ was "in tears" when he realised Beautiful Girl was released.

MJ's career has enough controversies without fans creating new ones IMO.

The tracklist on The Ultimate Collection is fine and representative of both his career, and of his creative process. Just because we got the IHS remix of Who Is It doesnt meant he approved the list upside down on a couch foaming at the mouth.

He approved Beat It 2008 w/ Fergie, like.

Michael went through those songs and approved what he liked. No way he's going to sign any contract that involved the release of his unreleased material

That's a fair point. I can't remember the details but I think I remember an interview with Tom Mesereau where he said that Michael wasn't writing songs during the trial and he (Tom) wished that he had been as it would have been a good distraction for him. Apologies if I've remembered this incorrectly. I can't remember which Tom interview it was, he's done so many. But I'm sure he did say something like this.

Michael was writing stuff with Brad Buxer in 2004 but I have no idea if they stopped while the trial was ongoing. Based on what (I think) Tom said, they must have stopped.

It seems unlikely to me. As he does not really mention the song in any way. It’s just a “look we’re in the studio working on music” moment. He wouldn’t be in the studio working on a song which had been released two months prior.

Additionally, The Ultimate Collection did have a single release from it, albeit a promotional single, and it was not Beautiful Girl, but Cheater. If he wanted to promote that box set during that interview, which to me seems very unlikely, he would have played some of that.

He was only playing the song.....he wasn't behind the board on some "let's change this" type of stuff. There's no way anyone can believe Michael had no knowledge of an unreleased song being on a boxset he looked over and signed off on....it's just not realistic.

MJ didn't care about that box set either way. You act like it's as important as Dangerous or something. It's not even the first time they've packaged his music with demoes in the 2000s. He absolutely went through the motions even before the trial came about.

Regardless, it wasn't his idea, it was just a contract obligation.

You have a boxset with 4 CD’s and quite a few unreleased songs, it’s not impossible that he just quickly went over the list and said “yeah, fine…whatever”. Him reviewing the list doesn’t necessarily mean he actually looked at each song and actively thought about whether or not it should be on.

If I'm aware of a boxset being released with unreleased songs, why would I just brush through it, sign off, then get mad when I allegedly find out years later that a certain song was on there?

As far as acting like it's as important asDangerous, that's not fair because what's important or holds value to one person might not be as effective to another.

All I'm saying is Michael knew what was going on

So what do you guys think of what I just said about 'Beautiful Girl' being unfinished? I mean I like his humming but I'm pretty sure those were meant to be lyrics! Isn't that weird? To release it in that state? And what a waste cause it sounds beautiful..

Beautiful Girl is an unfinished demo but like you said, it really is a beautiful melody and production....he also released an unfinished demo of PYT.

Because it's a contract obligation from 10 years ago, at a point in time where you're actively beefing with the contract holders, and you're also accused of the most heinous crimes of all time.

But anyway, this clarified:

Matt Forger: "I remember going through a hundred tapes - some with Michael's voice, some without. The best were chosen for this project, which covered his entire career. We wanted Michael to be more involved, but he was very busy with other commitments. He reviewed what had been assembled and gave final approval to the project. "

"Reviewing what had been assembled", sure, that's him being "aware". He was aware of everything they did. He still did not really have to care though. He might've lied if he could get away from Sony. He could've just changed his Mind. It's really not hard to fathom.

The most telling aspect of his dissatisfaction is that most of the songs from TUC were still on his wall paper of songs to finish.

Case closed, really.

I'll just say ok.

Not really, as it doesn't confirm @NeoGardiV8's claim that MJ cried (this claim is making my life so much harder by the way, Pull your weight PLEASE)

And it does nothing to explain why it's on MJs list of songs to finish.
Oh totally, I'm waiting for that source myself, I've asked twice now I think - I meant that it should really close the door on that comment unless we can get in confirmed when it was said and by who, IF it was said (which I'm guessing it wasn't).

the songs that were on TUC were demos and Michael did say he'd revisit songs and ask himself why they didn't make the album they were recorded for.

“Sometimes he writes new songs, and sometimes he wants to bring up something from the past that he knows is an unpolished gem,” explains Prince “That’s Michael’s way of doing things. He always revisited his favourite stuff. He’d say, ‘Why didn’t we put this on our last album? Let’s listen again. Can we make it any better?’ Sometimes it makes it on the album and sometimes it doesn’t.” - Michael Prince

Michael Prince also mentioned he thinks the song list was what Michael felt were important songs to him at the time

Ive heard it said before. It's not total misinformation

Its significantly unwise to put out songs you intend to finish before they're finished, okay. I just want you to acknowledge how that doesn't square with Michael being "aware" of everything.

It'd be like Billie Jean being on Triumph or something.

If you're saying MJ didn't intend them to be on the album then, sure, I guess, but that paper is like the closest thing to a roadmap we have for MJs Post Invincible career.

What songs could get leaked next?
That's the 37th time you've asked the same question, man. I understand being impatient, but being so obsessed about leaks is certainly not good for you.

To answer your question for the third time: the only leaks might be Adore You, Michael's Affirmation, Water or GYWOOM in HQ. Nothing else is in the hands of the fans atm.

Changes maybe

That shows how new of a fan he is. I remember the calm era of 2015-2018, with the only thing close to a leak being that video of Brad talking over "Family Thing" snippet.
