I thought the Eddystone lighthouse was the first. 1698. Then there's Stevenson's Bell Rock completed 1810.

I can't remember! But I'm sure it was as early as that. And Stevenson was def C19. Can't check any of this just now, watching a John Logan interview.

I found this last night which cleared up most of my confusion. Sort of. I'm not an engineer, lol.

What I really love about @bluemoon7 's lighthouse is the viewing balcony. It is exceptionally spacious. I'm not sure I could cope with being up there but if you have a head for heights it would be sensational to have that much space to move around and look at the sea and the sky.

Otoh, doing the weekly grocery shop would be a bit challenging, lol.

I read that visitors are able to see the lighthouse. Since I will be on vacation on the Island Wangerooge this summer, I would love to go on a trip there
