As of late, I've noticed a bunch of AI MJ videos, and what I mean by that is, just in my recommended videos, I would see an AI Michael thumbnail and a very generic title like "Michael Jackson remix," and it being a slideshow of just AI photos of Michael over a remix, assuming the remix itself isn't AI.

I've heard of people also getting their channels struck down for doing AI covers, but what else do you expect from Sony when you are using Michael's likeness? I feel like under the official Michael Jackson website there should be some kind of response under the FAQ about AI-related videos and covers.

as long as there is no law the estate or sony is not in the right to copyright strike people... why is that so hard to understand.
same as in the early 2000s there was no law for downloading music off the internet.

also let's make a thread "flood of threads in MJJC"

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as rude or flood anything like that; this is my first time using this forum. Just sharing my opinion.
I just feel like when people use certain likeness, whether it be their voice or image, while the laws about AI themselves may not exist or fully exist, it still wouldn't surprise me if companies or estates tried to protect that image.

Thankfully, legal measures against this illegal Artificial Intelligence-generated music began to take place.

For example, some months ago, members of the European Parliament have voted in favour of creating a new legal framework in order to fight this phenomenon.

Also, Tennessee governor Bill Lee signed (in 2024) the ELVIS Act into law, a legislation meant to protect the state's artists from Artificial Intelligence deep fakes.

This ELVIS Act gained big support from the recorded music industry and the Human Artistry Campaign.

This illegal Artificial Intelligence-generated music should not be allowed also in online fan forums, where members create threads so as to encourage this illegal practice (such as, by promoting their Artificial Intelligence generators/models for an artist's voice, even for dead artists like Michael Jackson).

Sony are already trying to deal with this AI situation. Back in May there was a flood of reports like this one:

This is what Universal is trying to do. Getting actual legislation in place to deal with this is more tricky.

oh, I forgot about that one! Hopefully it will provide a useful model.

"On March 21, 2024, the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security Act (ELVIS Act) was signed into law by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee. The stated purpose of the ELVIS Act is to protect musicians from unauthorized usage by artificial intelligence (AI).

The Tennessee legislation updates the state’s Protection of Personal Rights law to add sound and voice. Specifically, the law has been expanded to cover “new, personalized generative AI cloning models and services that enable human impersonation and allow users to make unauthorized fake works in the image and voice of others.”

Described as “first-of-its-kind legislation,” the ELVIS Act prohibits people from using AI to mimic a person’s voice without their permission, and violations can be criminally enforced as Class A misdemeanors. The law also authorizes civil action against any person who violates this law.

****************************************

Tennessee is the first state to implement legislation of this kind, with the law taking effect on July 1, 2024. Once the law takes effect, it will prohibit using AI to mimic an artist’s voice without permission. Violation of this law can subject one to civil and/or criminal action. How copyright exceptions, such as fair use, will be considered under this law is yet to be seen and will likely require analysis of the particular facts of the case."

I am afraid AI is unstoppable... a new reality is born: pictures and videos are no longer proof something is real. Of course, Photoshop has been around for a long time, but you needed skills to use it. Now it's a matter of typing what you want to see. I think fighting it is useless... but may be we as fans have a job here. It's places likes this forum, where people who want to know, can check what is real and what is not. We know, most of the times.

to be fair.. AI has brought more joy to the fandom than the estate in the last 10 years..
at least regarding fanmade projects.

I fear what you wrote is true and it is terrifying, especially when one realises that its use for everything unrelated to Michael will turn out to be a lot more influential and destructive and connected to our lives than anything mentioned in this thread. Think of the possible manipulations in case of international conflicts, even wars or pre-war contexts, fake epidemics... I am not looking forward to this.

Kai you are the only person to complain about too many threads in the MJJC. you do realise if no threads were being made, that would mean nobody is posting, right? Or does everything have to reach YOUR level of criteria of quality.

You are completely delusional !
And your statements are nonsensical.
Of course the estate doesn't bring joy regarding fan made projects, because they don't do fan made projects.
They do the official ones you know! Albeit they didn't do much since 2014..

What brought joy certainly wasn't AI, it were the leaks that brought some joy, illegal as they were.
It was authentic MJ stuff which got leaked:
- through illegal recordings
- through songs who found their way into the public from trade circles
- and in one case, the most substantial one, from a theft & subsequent leak of the stolen digital material

Non has anything to do with f***ing AI!

Nah that’s not true.. there were several people complaining about it in a thread which was opened for this specific topic. People even stated they don’t come here often anymore because of that… just saying.
