I believe "Why Can't I Be" is a Thriller outtake and should have nothing to do with Quincy Jones. So that one probably could've been released on Thriller 40. But they held it back.

It confirms that only the chorus exists for these songs. Here's an idea for the Estate : for all of these MJ songs that are missing vocals, get Jaafar Jackson -- sure to be a star once the biopic is released -- to complete the songs, using as much as the MJ track as possible. When there are no lyrics but a mumbled melody exists, write new lyrics to that melody and get Jaafar to sing them. Release the album as "Michael Jackson with Jaafar Jackson".

Although Damien commented otherwise; MJ's Monster sounds extremely similar to Cascio's Monster, it feels like if I go back and listen to the Bible demo it'll feel like I'll have listened to MJ's version as well lol.

The chorus doesn't sound as polished as I thought it would be, it sounds more like it's a weak guide vocal instead.

I'm not being harsh on the song, in fact I'm very happy that it leaked since I thought this would be a song we would never get to hear, but like—It always surprises when a song leaks and it sounds nothing like what I had imagined lol. I guess that's also part of the fun that comes from listening to new leaks.
 
Gotta say, in my opinion, people really overhyped “Monster.” I absolutely love it, but all that talk of it being MJ’s Sgt. Pepper song and being super artsy… The snippet doesn’t give that impression. Maybe the full thing, if we ever hear it.

Hearing “Water” in HQ has me jumping for joy though. So simple but so catchy.

Seems like both snippets are from different sections of the song. The new snippet doesn't have MJ singing "Trying to take a piece of my time" and also has the "ooo-ooo-ooo" part which was the only remaining vocal that hadn't leaked.

How can we tell from 5 seconds?

What brings Riley's version down is that he deleted a line -- when there were already not a lot of vocals on the demo -- but especially he messed up the bridge. Not only did he not use MJ's chords, melody and lyrics (which were not sung but were written down on a note they found when he died), but he put in a rap whose lyrics contradict the theme of the song -- which is that the girl hopes to make it but probably doesn't, since "she's giving hot tricks to men just to get in", which doesn't imply she's being cast as the lead for the latest Marvel movie.

There's this amazing sound effect in Water, like the Bassline sounds like Caribbean Steel Drums but if it was played by a Guitar. It's so cool sounding. Genuinely why didn't they use these sound effects to touch up and modernize the songs in Xscape and Michael? Like that's literally what Michael's modern sound was gonna be, use that EVERYWHERE.

The new A Place With No Name kind of has the vibe. Closest one for sure.

Same snippet in hq. Cool. I wonder if this is all he recorded.....(which i kinda doubt because why would he waste studio time to only record those lines)
