Quincy Jones Dead at 91!

Can I ask why you hate him and have no sympathy at all?

Hate is such a strong word, did you know him personally to hate him?
I wouldn't worry about this guy, he's a lost cause. He hates literally everything, he never grew out of being a rebellious teenager.

"I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend, the one and only musical genius, Quincy Jones. Quincy touched my world as both a cherished mentor and as also as someone I looked up to for his deep impact on virtually every form of American music.

I was privileged to work with Quincy, it was a dream come true. In our sessions, his musical intuition was nothing short of profound - he helped me capture “a little piece of heaven.” Quincy always knew exactly what each song needed.

In addition to his kindness and countless achievements, I also admired him for his philanthropic work which benefited the arts, global famine and underprivileged youth. His reach truly extends to all corners of the globe!

Quincy once said, “Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach.” May his wisdom and joy remain with us always.

- Celine xx..."

Quincy was vehemently against posthumous releases. I don't doubt he has something written in his will that prevents the release of said material.
I mean, not even wanting to talk about it like that yet, but I can see demoes being released in a strictly archival sense. Just like The Ultimate Collection and Thriller 25.

The Michael/Xscape approach is a definite No No.

My guess is we will see a Beatles type Super Deluxe Edition released in 2032/33 with all the bells and whistles. We will probably see an exhaustive OTW 50 before the decade is out. I don't think the Estate wanted to risk a lot of the material on what was the first major release since 2019.

I really hope you're right. Off The Wall is my favorite MJ album, and I hope they find some more demos for the 50th edition.

I don't think there are many demo's from OTW. Maybe a few, but don't forget, MJ was on tour during the production of the album and several of the songs that made the album were already released previously by other artists (Girlfriend, It's The Falling in Love). Which tells me they were scraping for material.

"I miss Q so much. I am so honored and blessed to be apart of his incredible legacy. I was 12yo!! Haven’t tweeted anything until now because I am literally still grieving.

My whole family is blessed to have known him. He was such a great soul, inspiration. Such a great man. Tweets like this used to seem so corny to me…but in this case it’s as right as rain."

I am sorry this is only my opinion of course and I don't talk it about it at all usually...BUT I was so torn when Q passed because I had a very hard time forgetting and forgiving the things that came out of his old mouth in his later years about EVERYONE it was not nice at all!
He let other peoples important secrets slip in his interviews for fun after decades of private silence, the stories he told and made up and said about people was false and not true or where made up for press bites, and as we all know Q does not have or give any remorse, apologies or accountability for doing it to other people purposefully and for me he was truly very lucky that Michael chose HIM to work with at all!

They made each other better for the albums they did do together granted 100%, but I saw Q begin to undermine Michael in comments, quotes and interviews it was not acceptable to me at all, like he was the singing star here was the only thing he didn't do for Michael kinda was the vibe and I caught it quick because they didn't to talk all about Q they really wanted get straight to asking about Michael. All those interviews with all the compliments and accolades he gave to Michael in the past, he then began to backtrack in negative opinions, old man side mouth comments, and off handed remarks in B&W quotes! I know Michael must of heard it too, maybe this is one of the reason Michael fired him because he SAID he believed in Michael's gifts and genius but I do not believe for 1 minute that Q ACTED like he believed in Michael at all behind closed doors!

It was Q that should have trusted Michael's vision PERIOD, instead he made Michael doubt himself, because Q didn't expect anything AMAZING would come from the THRILLER album because OFF THE WALL was such a disappontment to them and Michael shouldn't get his hopes up like before.. "I am just protecting you Michael verbage I don't want you to be hurt is what I am saying don't get your hopes up ok Mike" type vibes!
I believe that Q didn't even realize that Michael was triple the megastar Q ever thought he was! Pure and simple he underestimated the GREATEST ENTERTAINER TO EVER LIVE and Michael outsmarted Q at every turn, Q did the very thing he needed to do to make Michael MAGICAL he went in and within 2 week or less he went back in the studio and re-did, re-sang, re-directed, re-organised, re-wired and re-worked everything on THRILLER and if he had NOT done that in the 11th hour of it's release date, he had not been minimized and belittled by Q's retorts about not believing that this album would be the GREATEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME! It is simple Q did not BELIEVE AT ALL!! To Michael doubting him is and was the perfect MOTIVATOR to prove everyone including Q wrong AF!!
Michael OUTMASTERED the old Q, because it was Michael's visions for each note in every song and he was not going to let anyone else after the emancipation from his brothers that NO ONE was ever going to stop him, change him, interfere/interject or have any control over his CREATIVITY and his MUSIC ever again so they can attach their credits on it!

Q is like many old school geniuses back in his OLD HAY DAY, when he was the MJ of JAZZ himself and sometimes what happens when 2 gifted STARS work together and what often happens is the OLD SKOOL tries to guide, manouver and direct the NEW SKOOL on where they think they should go in their OWN natural processes, and by then Michael was a shrewed business minded young man and he didn't need guiding nor raising or guiding by Q, so he would have turned down the to many offers, and ideas and thoughts Q had tried to inpart but Michael was like no thanks this is what is in my head and this is how it is supposed to sound, thank you anyways Q, love you gramps but NO lolol (kidding).

So what happens in studios sometimes is something I like to call "MACHO MACHISMO" when 2 people are on the verge of greatness working on something BIGGER than them both, what happens is one may feel more superior than the other, and Michael was always humble and powerful, so it would be Q that would feel inferior at times working with this young MEGA MJ would remind him of that and they begin to minimize them, down play their impact because they do not want them to get a "BIG HEAD" syndrome. So they do not praise, give credit and due respect when everyone else does. It's a power play in control and position within that extraordinaryly dynamic of MICHAEL's world something few even Q would never experience.
This to me is 100% undermining Michael's support, confidence and self esteem, Michael was terrfied that THRILLER would be a another disappontment when he gave his entire heart and soul to his 2nd album. Could you imagine what kind of pressure and anxiety that would create for anyone and here is Q giving him the don't get your hopes up?? This is what he did by playing on Michael's insecurity and vulnerabilities because he needed to reply on Q's skills and opinions to help him, not try to control him and then you could control the power within him game!

I am greatful to Q for doing HIS JOB he was paid very well to do for Michael and that will be forever hands down, but Q crossed a line and he did whatever did they way he did it without a care or accountability for who he hurt or the lives he carelessly discarded on his way to his aging greatness! Michael was just BEGINNING his epic rise to the KING of MUSIC what he would ALWAYS become!

I wished so much that Q did not do these things but he DID and it is what it is and the world moves on and I thank you fans for listening to my own opinion and letting me say what I wanted to say about old Q, may he rest in peace.. and Michael shall always rest in his POWER!!

Didn't read all of this but it's not fair to blame Q for everything. If you listen to Michael's demos, his foundation is there 100% but Quincy did help bring certain elements to the songs that more than likely gave them their extra umph.

As people grow older, they stop caring and will say exactly what they feel. Quincy was in the studio with Michael while we watched from the outside so we can't paint his opinion on anything as invalid. He was entitled to feel however he felt about his relationship with Michael.

Michael wasn't a saint himself when it came to business.

🧚‍♀️ Thanks for replying, and I respect your opinion and what you are saying!
Let us not act like we should all thInk alike about Q and as I have expressed I do not forgive nor forget what Q did OUTSIDE
the studio is my point.
Please allow me to have my own opinion and do not defend Q by saying Michael was not a SAINT bcus he is more than a SAINT to me that is no EXCUSE for what Q did ever!
I am not saying Michael was perfect what I AM saying is Q was out of POCKET 1000% and should never spoke about Michael in his interviews and press articles from this VERY bitter and disrespectful place and call himself a mentor, maybe it was dementia who really knows, but what was REAL was the damage Q caused to innocent people. Michael would never do that to Q or anyone else period!
I only wanted to share my feelings about Q when I found this Thread today where we COULD all talk about OUR own opinions about him.
Thanks for just listening always 🧚‍♀️🙏🧚‍♀️

Whatever QJ personal opinions of MJ, they both created some of the most amazing music material the world had known at the time. Their collaboration bought magic and their influence on each other cannot be discounted.

I often find that nearly all of MJs close relationship with others was so complicated, too complicated to understand at times.

However, I always admired how MJ rarely publicly ever spoke badly about anyone, irrespective of however badly they spoke about him, I always felt that spoke volumes about his character.

We have also got to bear in mind that MJs life was cut short, had he lived we don't know whether certain relationships would have mended in their own natural time.
