The MJCast section of the episode covering the biopic news is worth a listen, however disappointing it is. Biopic section starts at 36:09. Heartbreaking even, hearing how much this film, as currently written, would be tackling in covering the allegations. One notable section:
“…The narrative of the biopic revolved very heavily around the allegations.
It depicted the raid on Neverland. It depicted the forced naked photoshoot Michael Jackson was subjected to by the government. And it really used the allegations in 1993 as a narrative spine.
So it was kind of flashing backwards and forwards between what's going on in 1993 and how did we get here. It was a very crucial part of the film and that was driven in no small part by Graham King, the producer, who is a huge supporter of Michael and has researched the topic in a massive amount of detail and is very convinced, as I understand it, of Michael's innocence and wanted to make that very central to the film. However, when this story broke, Lionsgate were like, what the f*** is this?
…So there have now been reshoots ordered. I understand that the reshoots are... I have to think carefully about what I say.
I understand that the reshoots are to do with a rewriting of the narrative of the film, which will now substantially dodge the 1993 issue, whereas it was previously heavily built around the 1993 issue. Those reshoots are due to take place in the coming months, but obviously, it's a big cast with some big hitters in it, like Coleman Domingo and Miles Teller. So when they will be able to get everybody together to do the reshoots, I don’t know.”
