The original Pepsi cassette lists Bruce Swedien as co-producer, yet Teddy Riley is credited as such on The Ultimate Collection (and not Bruce). Any idea who really worked on the track with Michael?

I’m confident Teddy helped co-write the verses with Michael but doesn’t mean he produced the final track though.

Teddy likely did, given how it showed up on the Future Records CDs amongst some of his other productions. In addition, certain parts of the song sound like a prototype for the kinds of slow jams he'd do with BLACKstreet for their first album, particularly their version of "Joy."

But that doesn't mean Swedien didn't have a part, as shown with how he presided over the addition of percussions by Paulino Da Costa

I'd say he definitely had a hand in production.

Teddy isn’t listed as playing anything on the song in The Ultimate Collection which is kind of unusual for his production work…

Interesting about Serban Ghenea… He started out in 1993 with Riley after SPYHO came out.

Why are there so many engineers? What could they all be possibly be doing that Bruce isn't? & what does programmed mean? (Excuse my ignorance)

There were multiple teams working on multiple songs at the same time.

Besides, take every credit info printed in the TUC with a grain of salt as there're some mistakes. E.g. Unbreakable recorded in 2002 or Bill Botrell on In The Back (edit: unless this song's based on an istrumental experiment from Hayvenhurst?).

Pez Jax did an interview with Jean-Marie Horvat (one of Teddy's crew) in 2020 or 2021 and I think I remember him mentioning working on SPYHO. Could be wrong, but that interview could shed some light on the topic.

Jean Marie does the "He's gone!" at the start of Xscape.

I had a bootleg with the song in the 90s and now I have it on the TUC box.
Do they sound different?
I cant remember they did but maybe the length was slighty different?

Quite a few assistant engineers listed, who’s help the main engineers… and rotate between different sessions

He mentioned the flugelhorn solo was by Wayne Cobham (brother of Billy Cobham), said Teddy mixed it but not sure other than that.

This and Monkey Business should have made the cut, they're great specially the latter
