What is the point of all these "correcting song credit" threads

Literally, What's the point? Who cares.

Most songs are co-written and produced in a cooperation between different artists.

We all know that Invincible wasn't Michael's favourite album. While I think it has some real gems, like Speechless, on it, I do think it was mostly an album he did half-heartedly to get out of his Sony contract.

And everyone has different opinion on what songs they like and don't. No need to bash everything.

Those of you who think Michael wasn't a great artist and entertainer can just not post please.

It's just spam, so that the only visible threads are about Invincible.

Don't worry about him, he works for Sony and gets a bonus for spamming all over.

Seems like a huge, illogical jump to say that anyone who questions song credits thinks Michael wasn’t an incredible talent or isn’t a fan.

Saying that MJ occasionally took undue credit isn’t a diss, it’s a fact, and there are many songs with reasonable doubt as to his contributions. In my opinion, it’s a more worthwhile and interesting conversation than another thread talking about how awesome this tour is or how that song has great vocals and should’ve been released.

imo the main problem is not that people are discussing this topic...if it's interesting for you, okay 🤷. The main problem is that some people don't know how to express themselves in a respectful way.

I guess we need to make a petition and give them to admins to make a change, haha 🤣

Really? I find the odd

It can become a very serious issue when a different artist is not listed at all on the songwriter credits of a certain song.

This can lead to albums getting released without certain songs, or artists losing a lot of money due to getting undue credits and so on.

For example, Italian courts decided the Italian version of the 'Dangerous' album to not include the 'Will You Be There' song (because Michael Jackson allegedly took the melody from Italian songwriter Albano Carrisi without listing him on the songwriter credits of that song).

The song was excluded from the track list only between 1999 and 2001. In 2001, the final ruling of the court exonerated Michael Jackson and the song was put back on the album.

So he was in fact cleared of plagiarism on appeal, since the judge found that both songs had been inspired by the 1939 song Bless You For Being An Angel.

But of course you would leave this important information out.

Oh sure, THAT is why they're bringing it up.

I'm not saying it is not a relevant topic for artists, maybe even for fans. But why discuss it the way they do? Why call it songs by xx artists feat. MJ.

The point is that Michael Jackson had a history of getting undue credits in his songs.

This was also confirmed by Quincy Jones:

"I hate to get into this publicly, but Michael [Jackson] stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs … The notes don't lie, man" (Quincy Jones, Vulture Interview)

Another example is the melody of his 'Leave Me Alone' song, which Michael Jackson apparently took it from the American songwriter Rick James without listing him on the songwriter credits of that song.

'Stranger In Moscow' is another example: Although American composer Brad Buxer co-wrote its melody, Michael Jackson did not list him on the songwriter credits of that song.

Not to knock Quincy, but I could not humanly care less what he had to say about MJ given how he seemed to go out of his way to demean him whenever possible. Wasn’t there claims that Quincy didn’t write “P.Y.T.” and took credit because he came up with the title/concept?

Quincy was just keeping it real.

Quincy Jones also extended the bridge and he added a chant-like outro to the song.

As a result, he deserved to get a co-writing credit on the song.

You sure you not thinking of "Wanna Be Starting Something"?

MJ came up with the title and original version of "PYT". Quincy completely reworked the song with James Ingram, iirc.
