I remember reading that MJ wanted them to produce the album, but they refused because they wanted MJ to produce it on his own.

I don't get why MJ would go back to them after Goin' Places flopped in 1977.
 
Epic wanted Gamble and Huff because they said Q was "too jazzy" but Michael fought for Q produce it.
 
I watched some of that doc when it came out but I got 😓
