I always liked this song, but to be honest, it never really wowed me. I tried to tell myself it was amazing after I saw people praising it online, but I dunno. Even though the production's fine and the vocals are great, the song just comes across as kinda bland to me. Borderline filler.

What y'all think

This makes me sad.

I don't understand threads that ask for confirmation. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. You must take control of your own taste. It doesn't matter what other people think.
THIS. If you like it then who cares what anyone else thinks?

I will say Got the Hots would've been a good replacement if it came down to removing it

Tbh Thriller arguably isn't a great album, either. The reason it sold so well was due to the novelty of the videos and Motown 25.

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'? Poor man Don't Stop til You Get Enough

The Girl is Mine? Trash lol

Thriller? Nobody gave a crap about this song before the video came out. It ripped off Rick James too

Beat It? Wannabe rock song

Billie Jean? Was lucky enough to be the first music video by a black guy to be played on MTV. And then MJ popularized the moonwalk to this song..

Human Nature? Poor man Toto song

PYT? Generic synth funk

The Lady in My Life? Generic R&B slow jam, MJ ain't even about that life

I never said I didn't like it lol

I'm just not sure if it's great or just good

What are you even doing here at this point? LOL

"The Lost Children" is Doo Doo but when someone told me the true lost children are the adults who lost their joy in life, I kinda liked it more

I mean it's still Doo Doo but that's kinda deep lol

Do y'all think it's a weak song
I like it.

But I don't matter. I'm not you.

You seemingly don't like it. And that's fine. But stop trying to get people to agree with you.

At this point the only weak thing here is you.

Nonsense. The album would not have been as good.
I think Got the Hots wasn't finished because its bridge shared similar chord progressions to Thriller but it would've worked on the album even as a b-side to a single.

I literally said I've always liked the song lol
In a thread called "is it a weak song?" You're the one saying it's bland.

Nah, I'm trying to get people to disagree with me and convince me why it's a great song.
There's no point. It would be wasted effort. I couldn't care less if you like the same songs as me.

Didn't you say The Girl is Mine is your favorite song lol
I never said that. But whatever. Seems like you don't get my point. Bye.

No.

I always considered Baby Be Mine to be a stellar highlight of the album. Slick Post-Disco with MJ's voice in his prime before he changed the doctrine on how to use his vocal chords. And the Moog off course. Very polished production with a great band backing it, but still has a lot of room to breath. It has that soft stickyness similar to I Can't Help it and Rock With You.

PYT on ther hand is bit too much "Kool&The Gang" for my liking. I always thought the demo was better. But on the tracklist it sits perfectly between Human Nature and The Lady In My Life. Carousel I enjoy better, but would have slowed the tempo down on side B. The vocoders are great fun and silly, though. Rip James Ingram.

The Girl is Mine seems to be "the black sheep" of the album, but I always prefered it to "Girlfriend" and the artwork in the booklet is crazy.
So there is that. :p

I like the similarities to "Rock with You", but it's nowhere near as good.

The bridge on "Baby Be Mine" is kinda weak. Something about the production on the song feels unpolished. Some of the synths sound kinda cheap, like it's an unfinished demo. Maybe the song is just dated, but I don't feel this way about most other postdisco songs. 🤔

I wonder if "Spice of Life" (Manhattan Transfer song also written by Rod Temperton, originally meant for MJ) would've been better.

Here are certain things that make 'Baby Be Mine' a good song:

- The song evokes a nostalgic 'Off The Wall' album feel

- There is subtle jazz feel to the song along with a funky bassline

- The way Michael Jackson sings the background vocals

- The secondary melody that plays towards the end of the song (simultaneously with the main melody) adds depth to the overall musical composition

- In terms of its placement on the track list, 'Baby Be Mine' acts as a thematically effective introduction to the 'The Girl Is Mine' song

Yeah I like the key change towards the end

The guitar riffs and most of the synths are also cool, especially in the chorus

I haven't heard a song that was intended for Thriller that should've replaced Baby Be Mine.

Hot Street is close, but sounds too 80's and dated.

The album is perfect as it is. 9 tracks was the right number. Of course, we haven't heard everything that was intended for the album. So maybe there's still something out there that was recorded that was stronger. But I am guessing not.

Two titles ending with the word 'mine'... that's simply too much! It should have been 'Baby Be Mine' and 'The Girl Is Yours', or 'Baby Be His' and 'The Girl Is Mine'. 😜

I wonder how many self-penned songs MJ did present to Q.

Not even Behind the Mask?
In an alternate timeline where the album was titled Starlight and included Hot Street, Carousel, Who Do You Know, She's Trouble and PYT demo, it would've worked but BTM is one of those songs I instantly skip. It's weak

He sings the song with the passion you'd expect in a ballad

But it's upbeat with a tempo of 110 bpm 🤔

❤️ 🧤 💫Please Forgive me BUT this is not a FAIR statement in itself about any of Michael's music in my opinon!
He had millions of multi-national and multi-cultural Fans around the entire world!
I know that not all of Michael's music every Fan loved because we are all so different.
So the songs he made crossed genres and cultures and that is WHY he made them all, for our different favorites so we could have them!!

One man's trash is another man's PLATINUM RECORDS lol!

If you look at it from a WORLD VIEW you would see that every Michael Jackson song was a HIT, a FAV a TREASURE to every single Fan of HIS!!
We are the LUCKY ones !!
