Estate was capping to promote the Michael album.

It was originally "The Toy" in the early 80s and considered for Thriller. Then it was reworked during the Dangerous sessions as "Best of Joy" in 1991

The version that appears on Michael is from 1991 fam

The Toy was written for the movie, never a contender for Thriller but Michael said he felt it was just as strong as a few songs that ended up on the album.

Isn't it common knowledge BOJ is from Dangerous? Michael [Prince] said there are new vocals from October 2008 but I don't buy it

Wtf 😳 Are you serious? Why dont we believe Michael Prince anymore? 😅

Imo it is very clear that those are late 2000 vocals. I mean compare it to the Toy. HUGE difference right? The vocals on the Michael Album are from 2008! I have no doubt about it!

Prince is right about 2008 vocals; afaik they weren't used for the Michael album.

Huh? You guys are killing me right now 😂
Afaik there are more (2008) vocals that arent in the final mix (additional verse).

But cmon. The vocals we have arent from 1991. Thats literally impossible

1. the vocals doesnt sound dangerous era to me at all.
2. MP confirmed that MJ laid down vocals to multiple songs in a hotel in late 2008 (I Am A Loser turned to I Was The Loser + Best of Joy was rerecorded).
3. This was confirmed by other sources if i remember correctly. I think Damien Shields confirmed it.

What is your source that these are 1991 vocals? Like who said that?

trust me brother
😭 this is really killing me right now. BoJ is a very special song for me and Im convinced its one of the last vocals he ever laid down.

Or are you actually saying you heard the 1991 version and you KNOW it is the same as the „Michael“ version? 🤔

i was not saying anything.. i just meant that the source of the thread-started must be "trust me brother".

Partial lyrics were recorded. Just the third verse.

Somebody (Prince?) said it wasn't used for Michael because of its different recording quality.

The third verse was leaked a while ago (along with a different vocal take of the whole song). Korgnex leaked it i think.

Its a different vocal take for sure but you can hear in that leak that the voice is basically the same as on the „Michael“ version. I think it was left off the album cos MJ is slightly off key / doesnt sing with full effort in the additional verse.

@AlwaysThere I remember we once talked about BoJ in private. Whats your opinion on the whole subject?

Michael's voice can deceive when trying to pinpoint to certain eras.

I remember when TUC was released, many didn't believe WATW vocals being from 1985.

Or later with Abortion Papers being from 1983/4.

Yeah i get that. But 1991 to 2008? Cmon 😅

Thats literally like the difference between Off the Wall and HIStory

Pretty sure Melodyne™ was used on the vocals

No I don't think this just happened to be the one song MJ pulled out of his vault and rerecorded from start to finish months before he died

He rerecorded multiple songs / or part of songs in late 2008. If you have a source / proof for your theory that the vocals arent from 2008 I would be open to listen.

Otherwise its just your personal opinion - which I respect. But personally I trust the sources we have (and my ears lol)

It was re recorded in 08. It's really sad that people are trying to confuse things even more, it's even worse that people are still responding in good faith even after all the trolling and obvious bait threads from this user.

wasn't it even confirmed that MJ planned to perform and release BOJ later on This Is It Tour.

dunno specifically about boj; the plan was to record/finish songs at a studio in London

I'd love to hear the BoJ multis for the Michael album, it's very lush and Miscke's backgrounds are a lot better than most of the background vocalists Michael has used.

The vocals were processed. Would be more interesting to hear unaltered 1991 & 2008 multis.

'Best of Joy', originally 'The Toy' was recorded in 1981, revised April 1991 to 'Best of Joy', and revisited in November of 2008 while at the Beverly Hills Hotel.. It was also one of the songs listed in MJ's Carolwood home as one of the songs that were on his radar.
