Milking MJs name for attention 🙄

I'm experiencing a level of frustration that I think only other other fans can relate to, so I thought I would share.

A couple of days ago I saw Mark Ronson give an interview where he mentioned MJ, MJ was in the title of the video so I clicked. MR shared that he hung out with MJ once when he was pals with Sean Lennon. He said MJ seemed like he was just a kid to him back then (Bad era), like he hadn't grown up, and he commented how he observed this as a young teen himself. He said MJ was only interested in throwing paper towel bombs from the window. He also mentioned that him and his friends wanted to watch a porn channel and MJ told them to turn it off. It appeared that they all slept in the same room in Yoko Onos place, but this was not made clear. He said MJ asked him to close the window at night as the draught would effect his performance for the next day.

Yesterday I see the main media have picked up on this interview and the headlines are disgustingly suggestive. MR must have also said somewhere that he re examined that night in light of allegations. From the interview I saw, MR was in no way negative about MJ, but also wasn't positive. Please do not give the media platforms the views, but it's the age old, MJ spent night with me when I was 12/13 headlines. I only read one article, which did not have a suggestive title, and as usual they insinuate the obvious and dread up past allegations in detail, including LN nonsense. I was so upset at how they left out most of what MR said about MJ in favour of their narrative, I guess MJ telling kids to turn off porn didn't fit that narrative.

MR name dropped many famous people in the interview as apparently he grew up around them owing to his parents. But yet, guess what, no one else is mentioned in any way by the media, except MJ.

I'm now skeptical of MR, he probably knew the only way to get any attention for his memoir is to name drop MJ, no one cares about anyone else he met (or what he did). I, for a start didn't have a clue who he was until he gave that interview and mentioned MJ. Since he has reportedly made a name for himself within the industry, why couldn't he get attention for his memoir using said experience instead of using MJ.

I'm so tired and fed up of everyone negatively milking MJs name for attention. Wittingly or unwittingly they contribute to defiling his beautiful name and character, and it breaks my heart every time I see it.

I thought how sad it was that MR only met MJ that one time, yet it was more newsworthy than anything else he did in his entire memoir.

Furthermore, if you met Michael Jackson even once and were writing a memoir, there’s no chance you wouldn’t mention it.

It’s also very cynical to imply that Mark Ronson won’t get any attention unless he speaks about MJ given that he’s a globally successful and acclaimed producer who has worked with countless names. MJ just happens to be the biggest.

It sucks that the media hones in on MJ references, but that shouldn’t stop people from talking about him.

I fully appreciate that people use MJ in some way, but that doesn't make it right, and I am not referring to all who mention MJ, I am referring to those who use his name to get the medias attention.

It's great that MR is an acclaimed producer, maybe he can try and get some publicity on his memoir based on his actual work with the countless stars he has actually worked with, rather than using interviews to disproportionately discuss a brief chance encounter he had one day with MJ when he was a young teen.

I never suggested people should stop talking about MJ, I expressed how frustrating I find it that people use MJs name to get the publics attention for themself. Maybe I am being unfairly harsh on MR, but since it's the only thing that has got him in the papers on his book tour, I suspect that he knew what he was doing.

But it's always interesting to hear different perspectives, good for you that you don't care.

But like I said, I don’t think sharing one story means that Ronson is leading his book tour with the MJ story; it appears as though he brought it up once and, the press doing what the press does, it became a leading headline.

In theory MJs legacy won't be harmed by a single story, in reality it's being harmed by a thousand cuts when the abuse allegations keep being bought up unnecessarily. I think MR choice of words about having to re examine that one chance meeting in light of allegations is feeding into it, that's why I remain cynical of MR, I think he did choose the low hanging fruit, I'll wait to see if anything else he says about his memoir makes it to the headlines. And yes, the press does what it does, but celebrities also do what they do to court the press.

I think you're right about it not worth being upset about though. I guess I'm not at that stage in my fandom yet.

What's interesting is that the media takes that in a negative way, like it should make us think he was guilty, but when you actually listen to what he says, that they wanted to watch porn but Michael made them turn it off, when you re-examine that night in light of the allegations it actually points towards Michael's innocence, especially given that Michael was accused of showing porn to the Arvizos, which is directly contradicted by Mark Ronson's experience.

That's a nice interpretation, but one I suspect that only fans could conclude, as the average audience will not know the details of the Arvizo case.

Using phrases such as 'it made me re examine that night', and that he had to reflect on the experience and 'put it through the lens a hundred times' has negative connotations, these are not phrases one would naturally utter if trying to suggest anything positive or even neutral. These are phrases one would use when something has gone awry. By using such language he gives the impression that he combed through the experience to look for signs of questionable behaviour and then concludes that 'for whatever reason' nothing untoward happened, almost like he's surprised at this conclusion.

It just gives me vibes of exploitation. He didn't need to search for questionable behaviour when there was none evident to begin with, at a one time chance encounter with MJ when he goofed around with wet paper towel bombs.

Thanks for sharing. I agree, that woman has spent a lifetime exploiting names for attention. I don't want to give her the views. Is she recycling the usual nonsense when it comes to MJ?

She has some teflon quality to her, LMPs biography did not reflect well on her, she even took LMPs daughter through some legal process when it came to her own granddaughters inheritance. Yet somehow, she gets away with all this questionable behaviour and the media don't bat an eyelid. I find that very curious.

She has nothing new to say, recycles the same stories again and again and yet she's quite the media darling. How sad to have that much negative energy for someone who has passed away, who you barely knew from 30 years ago.

In the context of discussing LMPs manipulative ex, I suspect the name of her last husband, the one that rinsed her financially dry, was conveniently overlooked. I guess she has to get in the headlines using MJs name now because maybe even EPs name won't cut it for her anymore.
