The Michael Jackson Chart Watch

I got no idea. But do you honestly not find it strange that the song is in the top 3 for a couple of months?! If you asked somebody to name 10 MJ songs, they would never say Chicago.

I think Sony just wants to promote Xscape so that they can start calling it a "legendary" album.
Chicago and Heaven Can Wait both blew up on tiktok in 2022, and both of them have been getting really high daily streams on Spotify since, especially Chicago.

The opinions of the general public don't really matter when it comes to top top-streamed songs of an artist.

Again, if Sony wanted to rig a song to get high daily streams, they could have chosen hundreds of songs that Michael released during his lifetime. There are plenty of Michael songs that were hit singles that don't get a lot of streams in 2025. Even from the Xscape, they could have chosen Love Never Felt So Good, Slave To The Rhythm or A Place With No Name before Chicago. It makes no sense for Sony to choose Chicago of all songs to rig so it gets high streams. I doubt Sony is even smart enough to do that.

iirc, it was you that was posting stuff on this thread, tracking the progress of HCW and Chicago - especially Chicago. It was cool watching it unfold. :)

Sony would have to be playing a hell of a long game. Personally, I find it more believable that it's happening just bc that's the (sometimes random) nature of streaming.
Yeah, it's random. But random stuff settles back to the predictable norm over time. Outliers are transient, not permanent.

I just don't think "blowing up on Tiktok" is nearly as important as you think it is.

Chicago is getting roughly the same number of streams as Earth Song. And Dirty Diana. Combined. Let that sink in for a minute.

I'm really at a loss for words. Surely somebody has a legitimate reason for it?

Transient? Maybe. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Chicago has been having a 'moment' since 2022 and it's still going. If that's 'transient', I'll take it.

'HCW' is static at No.16 but 'Chicago' has just gone back up from No.4 to No. 3 in Michael's most streamed daily songs on Spotify. I think it's doing OK. So if it fades back into obscurity at some point, it'll have had a pretty good run.
