DSTYGE - why wasn't this song performed anymore after the Triumph tour?

The recent Chicago '81 leak shows once again Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough live was 🔥🔥🔥

Just wondering why this song didn't make the Victory Tour setlist. DSTYGE could have easily replaced OTW.

Because Billie Jean replaced it. Michael originally wanted to tour solo but he was being pressured by his father to tour with his brothers and then basically did the Thriller Tour with The Jacksons. Thriller wasn't performed since Michael didn't like the sound of it during rehearsals.
 
DSTYGE was one of Michael’s biggest hits and one of his most recognisable songs, so it is strange that he didn’t perform it live on his solo tours except for a little portion as a part of the medley during the History Tour.

My guess is that is because it was a difficult song to sing live.

Performing Don't Stop live can surely be demanding, but I think Michael could have perfomed it in 1984 with ease.

DSTYGE live would have the Victory set list.

I don't know... Michael did lower the key of multiple Thriller songs in Victory by quite a lot, not sure if he would have performed it with ease

Imo it's not correct to point Triller songs as a reference, as he'd never performed before.
 
Like others have said, it's a tough to sing live every night, especially as he got older. He would've had to sing outside of his falsetto and more in his "normal" singing voice. Plus I don't think it would've worked during Victory anyway.
 
May be Michael simply liked Workin' Day and Night more.
It always surprised me Michael performed that song on so many tours. It wasn't a single, and therefore it wasn't a hit song ... he must have really liked it.

Honestly this, because he didn't perform Rock With You or Off the Wall all that often either, and DSTYGE and Rock With You and Off the Wall were certainly bigger hits than Workin' Day and Night.

Haha! I am sure he liked that aspect of the performance.

Also, when thinking a bit more about his fondness for Workin' Day and Night: may be this song was special to Michael because it was the only song on his first solo album at Epic Records that he composed completely on his own. We all know Greg Phillinganes helped with the bridge of Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, and on Get On The Floor Michael shared writing credits with Louis Johnson. So may be Workin' Day and Night was significant to Michael because it was a milestone, may be it was the first track he felt he had complete control over. May be he considered it the first real Michael Jackson song.

Yes, it is surprising that he performed Working Day And Night until the 1992 leg of the Dangerous Tour. Michael didn't perform many non-singles, so for him to perform WDAN for as long as he did shows that he had a real fondness for the song, and perhaps a regret that he didn't release it as a single, as that song had massive hit potential.
 
It would have looked out of place in Michael’s later tours , not just vocally but in terms of the performance.

His shows become a well polished choreographed machine down to every aspect.

Don’t stop had very basic dancing moves which was more spontaneous and more based on energy.

A 90’s era MJ who lip synced most of his songs by this point - it just wouldn’t work.

The OTW medley he did on History Tour was embarrassing.

I did love the little acapella bit he did during those This is It rehearsals though!
 
I think the song might have been too demanding in combination with the choreography but vocally it would still be very similar to the original, more so than most other songs imo

That's the reason why the Bad Tour is so special to me...of course, this was planned, too, but it felt more spontaneous and emotional than the Dangerous and HIStory-Tour.

I love the Bad tour and the first leg of the Dangerous Tour …History Tour? I absolutely hate it with a passion - it’s so boring , the dancing is slower and the live vocals are non existent! It’s super boring.
