The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Not sure if everyone is aware, but there is over an hour of footage missing from the currently available sources of the Mexico Deposition. This channel said that they would release some of the missing footage back in 2021, but as far as I can see, it never surfaced.

The reason I bring it up is that it might contain some more information about unreleased songs. We know that Why Can’t I Be and Thank You For Life were played at the 1984 deposition, so the same could be the case here. You can hear that he references songs prior to The Girl Is Mine that share similar chords

  • “Hallucination” (Demo) – Steve Porcaro (vocals)
  • “Gone Too Soon” – Dionne Warwick version
  • “How Do I Tell You” – Babyface
  • Pepsi Commercial Demos – Writers’ demos for “I’ll Be There” and “Black or White”
  • “Tree of Life” – Instrumental demo by Bryan Loren
  • “2 Bad” – Instrumental demos
  • “Family Thing” and “Dream Girl” – Instrumentals by Bryan Loren
  • “In the Closet” – Alternate edits
  • “Smile” – Two studio master tracks
  • “Bombay Nights” – Instrumental demo
  • “Who Is It” – Alternate remixes
  • “The Lost Children” – Studio master track
  • “Family Thing” – Demo by Bryan Loren
  • “Dangerous” – American Music Awards 1993 studio version
  • “Planet Earth” – Unreleased project (not identical to the bonus track on This Is It)
  • Invincible – “Work in Progress” album (15 tracks)
  • “Don’t Be Messin’” – Unreleased long version (1990)
Essentially, a whole lot of nothing.
is the invincible wip any different than whats released or not? like different track listing or smth

An unmastered copy (so more dynamic range), Shout is in the tracklist and Heaven Can Wait has a couple different ad-libs from what I've gathered.
There might be more subtleties throughout the whole thing but these seem to be the main ones.

2 songs right there that could be released. Even if they were recorded late 70's, the Estate could just put them on Thriller 50.

He cites Thank You For Life as one of the first songs he wrote, 1973 or 1974. So possibly a stretch to put it on Thriller 50.
We must also consider 15 year old Michael's merits as a songwriter - expect something quite simple, like What a Lovely Way to Go.
Why Can't I Be is probably a better candidate for Thriller 50.

I thought Bombay Nights had at least a scratch vocal on it

Question to the insiders / collectors / leakers:

Is the 2008 version of Hollywood Tonight circulating and if so is it possible we could get that track as a Xmas gift lol 😁
This would be killer! I’m just interested in hearing the David Williams guitar to be honest. Not using it on any of the mixes is one of the most baffling posthumous decisions I’ve seen from any MJ collaborator.

I thought the leaked version we have was the 2008 version? Unless I'm totally mistaken

Niteline, Hot Street, Why Can't I Be, Nymphette Lover... All could easily make Thriller 50. If they don't make it on that, odds are slim we ever get them officially released.

I've seen be mentioned in this forum that there are collectors who own that version in high quality, but if that isn't true there's definitely a seminar recording going around at the very least - the "In The Back" phone call snippets that's been leaking in the last year comes from a ITSWMJ seminar of which Brad Buxer and Michael Prince were the hosts, and at that same seminar they also played the 2008 mix of "Hollywood Tonight", so that was most certainly recorded as well.

There are definitely people with higher quality versions of HT

There’s a lot of music that doesn’t meet the eye. La Toya Jackson said she discovered hard drives full of music, and we don’t know anything about it — we don’t even know the titles.

No songs were played in that "over a hours of footages missing".
The actual full run of the Mexico 93 Deposition is around 30 hours.
