As far as I could see, the Thriller challenge did only focus on spotify and apple and it did not meet its target number of streams, so do not overrate its impact.
Instead, mj has been increasing all year and peaked even before the challenge started. Many songs are increasing on many platforms.
The Halloween effect has been present in other years too, but last year it brought a peak rank 35 in monthly listeners on spotify, now it went to 22.

A few days of a fan rally can not mess up the whole streaming environment, its just a fun way to give one song a bump and demonstrate the community's enthusiasm.
So what I am saying is, all this does matter!
I would much rather hear about thoughts about explanations for MJs increases during last years...

2020-2023 Big increase all plateformes

4,8B to 6,5B ( +37% in the us on that period)
and +38% outside of the us same period.

Charts didn't matter, even when they reflected sales from actual humans. They matter even less now that they simply reflect bots playing tunes on a loop. It's just record executives patting each other on the back on how well they've managed to control everybody.

That's what I was saying. This topic isn't discussable because it's basically just numbers being spammed from a spreadsheet. I've repeatedly asked for people to offer explanations about the trends behind the data, but nobody is bothered.

No offence but doesn't this mean that you need to look at the trends behind the data? Bc that's what interests you rather than just plain data being re-posted. I don't think there are any statisticians in the thread so how do you expect anyone to be able to do this stuff? Plus, as I've said before, people do their 'Michaeling' in ways that are pleasing and interesting to them. If you want different data or data presented / analysed in a particular way I would think you'd have to find a way to do that yourself.

Not being harsh, I am just genuinely baffled by all of this :unsure:

Michael reaching top 10 in major music markets such as the UK and the USA in 2025 is not something I ever imagined in my wildest dreams. He did it on his own and not due to the help of a popular contemporary artist.

There was no promo. Michael’s useless estate and record label don’t even bother to promote Thriller during Halloween. This success is purely down to (a) Michael’s timeless music and (b) The hard work and effort of everyone involved in Thriller challenge. Congrats to all the Michael Jackson fans on this amazing achievement. :love:
