The World Is Loving Michael Jackson Again and the Same Corporations That Hurt Him Wants a Piece of It

by NWO Sparrow

The media spent years destroying his image yet now rushes to celebrate him for financial gain.

Funny how the same outlets that called him Wacko ***** are now acting like they always loved him.

For years Michael Jackson stood as a target for mainstream outlets that built entire cruel business models around dragging his name. Today those same companies are gearing up to profit from the renewed global love for Michael sparked by the upcoming biopic. The shift is loud, bold, and troubling. There is an uncomfortable irony in watching media corporations celebrate the very figure they spent decades tearing down. It is impossible to ignore that the same brands now praising his artistry once weaponized his private life to gain advertising dollars and magazine sales.

Many of the biggest publishers in the country pushed harmful narratives about Jackson. Platforms like Rolling Stone, Tribune Publishing, and Accelerate 360 which owns the National Enquirer ran stories that crossed ethical lines. The National Enquirer in particular took sensationalism to extreme heights with headlines that ridiculed his appearance and mocked his humanity. Television networks including Fox, NBC, and ABC contributed to the frenzy with coverage that pushed speculation over verified facts. These companies found value in making Jackson the punchline of a global joke, creating a hostile environment that affected his mental state.

Michael Jackson endured an avalanche of accusations that often lacked credible evidence. Some outlets staged interviews with people pretending to be victims of sexual misconduct. Others repeated false stories that investigators later proved to be untrue. The nickname Wacko ***** became a constant tool used to diminish him. That name appeared in newspapers around the world and shaped how millions viewed him. The tone was cruel and dismissive. His kindness was ignored, his philanthropy minimized, and his talent overshadowed by gossip. The general public didnt know Michael Jackson personally , they only knew of him what they read and saw. These commercial platforms took cruel advantage of that.

This coverage caused real damage. Jackson struggled to escape the cloud of negativity created by these publications. He spoke openly about the impact the harassment had on his emotional wellness. The pressure pushed him toward substances that altered his health. That cycle played a role in the tragedy that took his life. When he passed away in 2009, many fans blamed the relentless media assault as a major factor in his decline. Companies that smeared him for profit continued to publish stories even after his death because his name generated money.

Now the global conversation has shifted. Anticipation for the biopic has brought renewed excitement around his music and legacy. Social media conversations are filled with admiration for his creativity and fans across generations are reconnecting with his work. This cultural moment has created a financial opportunity for major outlets , who are now on the verge of collapse because print media is on its final legs . Suddenly these companies are releasing glowing articles celebrating his influence. They are producing documentaries about his career, highlighting his innovation, and positioning themselves as long time supporters of his greatness.

The truth is that celebrating Michael Jackson is now a profitable strategy. Criticizing him no longer delivers views or search traffic. Positive coverage attracts his fanbase which remains one of the most loyal communities in the world. These corporations know that uplifting him drives engagement. Their praise is tied to revenue not reflection. They are not acknowledging past harm. They are not apologizing. They are simply following trends that boost their bottom line.

There is a business motive behind every flattering headline. Outlets that once painted Jackson as unstable are now calling him a cultural icon because the film is projected to do massive numbers. The renewed interest around his art is powerful enough to reshape public opinion and brands want to be part of this wave. They want to position themselves as supportive voices as if their earlier stories never existed. This behavior erases decades of exploitation.

It is important for readers to recognize the pattern. Media corporations are not celebrating Jackson because they experienced a change of heart. They are celebrating him because the world is embracing him again and that momentum can be monetized. Fans must stay aware of how these platforms operate. They helped fuel the chaos that surrounded him and contributed to the pain he carried. Their sudden affection is a strategy that benefits their pockets.

Michael Jackson created music that changed lives and inspired countless artists. His work deserves respect and his story deserves honesty. What he does not deserve is selective memory from companies that mistreated him. The hypocrisy is clear. The same institutions that mocked him now want to profit from his rise in popularity. The moment demands accountability. If these outlets truly value his legacy they should acknowledge their role in the harm he endured instead of pretending they always honored him.

The world is falling back in love with the greatest entertainer to ever live. Fans should continue celebrating his brilliance while remembering the truth about how he was treated. Let this new era be a moment for reflection not revision. Michael Jackson deserved better when he was alive. He deserves honesty now.

Bogdan, I don't dissagree.
The media at the time, tried to crush and tarnish many celebrities, but no matter what the media tried, Today Michael’s truth and talent shines brighter than ever. The world is remembering and appreciating who he really was. I think that it can only be a good thing that the younger generation will get to see the best of him in this new movie.
Of course there is always going to be an element of business motive and profitability. The industy has always been this way and It's good to make people aware of this.

I just hope the move does his memory justice and that the next generation can enjoy his music like I did growing up.

Bruh, this is only for money, don't even care about them! They killed Michael, they are freaks, I don't want to listen their crap...

When I saw how well the trailer was doing, I did think it would be wiser for the media to cash in on the public driven positive response, which clearly reflects the failure of the media driven negative campaign from the past few decades.

We just need one of these documentaries to provide a fair representation of the child abuse allegations, that's one thing MJ never had in the mainstream, it has always been trial by media where MJ was concerned, even when he was fully acquited. I think a fair representation would be enough to tip the scales in favour of MJ for the doubters.

But as a long time MJ fan, I accept this is wishful thinking on my part.

I wholeheartedly agree. What I will say is that the 2019 documentary ā€œMichael Jackson: Chase The Truthā€ does a fairly good job at dismantling the allegations, debating the inconsistencies of the allegations and the many false narratives propagated by the accusers and the media. For me, it was like a breath of fresh air. I’m currently on a spree of MJ documentaries, this is one of the good ones out there. So happy to see there are still many people who did not get swayed when it comes to Michael’s integrity as a person.

Yes, thankfully there are good documentaries on the subject, and hopefully these will surge in popularity after the biopic release. But there's never been anything by major networks to reach the masses, nothing with fair representation anyway. Many people believed LN simply because it had been rubber stamped by major TV networks. Under fair scrutiny the allegations fall apart very quickly, it doesn't even need to be MJ leaning to achieve this effect. MJ will potentially come across as someone unorthodox/with arrested development/with boundary recognition issues/naive/neurodivergent even but not criminal. However, I'm not convinced the tide has turned that much, yet.

Mariab, are there any other MJ documentaries that you would recomend? I have seen chase the truth, but am always a bit apprehensive about viewing this kind of thing, because of how they edit and twist things.

Oh, I empathize with you on that, there are quite a few out there that propagate falsehoods and continue to damage his reputation, and even when watching documentaries that make a case for MJ's innocence, it's still important to look for factual statements, not just "opinions, impressions and speculations". For "Chase the truth", I liked that we were provided with factual evidence regarding the inconsistencies (ex. one of the accusers claimed Michael behaved inappropriately with him at Neverland's train station during a time when this train station wasn't even built - receipts were provided in support of this).

Are you looking for documentaries that dismantle the allegations? If so, the next one on my list is "Square One: Michael Jackson" (2019). Mind you, I have not watched this yet, but have read reviews for it stating that this documentary also makes a good case for Michael's innocence. I can offer more feedback after I watch it.

Other documentaries I have watched mostly cover his life, his growth as an icon and his death and the circumstances around it; they touch on the allegations, but do not go in detailed depth about them. Still, I highly recommend:
  • Michael Jackson: The Life Of An icon (2011)
  • Michael Jackson's Journey From Motown To Off The Wall (2016)
  • Killing Michael Jackson (2019) - Documentary featuring the three U.S. detectives who led the original investigation into Michael's death - I appreciate the officers saying all of this publicly
  • The Last 24 Hours: Michael Jackson (2018) - I wasn't very pleased with this one as, to put it in the words of another reviewer, it's not very inspired, comes off as tabloid-ish, and presents interviews with people who don't relay anything factual because they weren't directly involved
Honorary mentions that focus on specific tours/songs/accomplishments:
  • This Is It (2009)
  • Thriller 40 (2023)
  • Michael Jackson Bad 25 (2012)
I will try to update this as I go through whatever other documentaries I find. :giggle:
