The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Yeah Streetwalker was used for the Dangerous demo.
Just to confirm, I'm talking about Price of Fame -> Who Is It. I'd never seen anything connecting these before, here or elsewhere. I wouldn't call similarities or recycling of parts to mean that a song "evolved" into another is my point.

"The Hurt" is not an early version of "Hollywood Tonight" for example, just because the exact same harmonies were used.

Dangerous reuses stuff from Streetwalker (bass) and APOM Demo (lyrics).
Yes, I should have said "but nothing as concrete as there is for Streetwalker/Dangerous". I edited my post though, thanks!

Monster still such a holy grail for me, the snippets we had sound so great. Really wished he would’ve finished that one (hopium there’s a scratch vocal laying around).
I believie it would’ve been great for Invincible. Chamber’s remake is great too.

I wonder how many with John Barnes created songs are in the vault that we don't know of their existence. I'm So Blue & Loving You were quite a surprise.
Whatever stuff done with Barnes is my priority because of both the sound and the lyrical content. The range of subjects across the Bad spectrum is so broad.

Plus I love that "Barnes" sound.

The 1989 sessions were basically a continuation of the work the "b-team" had to pause in early 1987.
There's a couple things, but nothing that ended up on the album. Bryan's stuff was also fresh and new, making up a significant portion of what was created from 89-90. I think the Who Is It link is mostly tenuous, so it really just leaves Dangerous.

It might have been fresh and new but I doubt I could stomach a full album (or 75% of one) of his music and production. Superfly Sister works perfectly as an "album track" but none of the Loren stuff remotely sounded like a timeless classic. He certainly had no "Remember The Time".

You clearly didn't hear Music From The New World

It’s circulating? I want to hear that one and what’s your life
Allegedly, "Attitude" was written by Michael, Kathy Wakefield and Michel Pierre. It was supposedly registered with EMI Music Publishing, but so far I haven't been able to find any reliable source for that. If anyone has any more info regarding the title it'd be appreciated.

Was listening to the John Barnes special again. There's something that didn't catch my attention until now. Barnes said at one point Al Capone has morphed into Smooth Criminal; so, it's more than just the adaption of staccato vocals? I wish mjcast had dug more into this.

I prefer Serious Effect to Remember the Time. Minus the boring, repetitive instrumentals, I think Bryan's completed work is timeless and great. That isn't to take away from Riley and co's work on what made the album, that's great too. But I don't see it as competitive in 2026.

Wasn’t this common knowledge?

Not sure I’d call Bryan’s music timeless. It’s all very distinctly late 80s / early 90s funk imbued NJS. I enjoy what he did with MJ and think he gets way too much hate, but his material was not at all worthy of making the final album. A lot of it felt like bargain bin Prince material (and this from someone who doesn’t like Prince).

When you listen to AC and SC, it’s clear it evolved as it shares the same melody, chord progression and musical phrases yet they were worked on and treated as separate songs. I wonder if it was a debate on which song should be finished

Do we know what Roger Troutman did on Al Capone?

Motif does not have it, and AdeZ did not sell it, but that does not preclude other people from having it. His version is not particularly noteworthy.
Phoenix! Hey man! Also, I never said Motif had the full thing, I was under the impression that only AdeZ has it. Are you implying that other people do?
