Yes, what the hell? It's unbelievable that these people get to work with MJ's multitracks.mic bleed left in
Listen to "Smooth Criminal." On more than one occasion, Michael jumped out of the speakers. If this is the level at which the Estate operates, then goodbye. The fact stuff like that was left in is very odd, it is very noticeable when listening.
My best guess is that they mixed with the real multitracks, not the stems. I had to double-check, but the stems (yes, there are some) for earlier edits have no mic bleed. The mic bleed is in the multitrack vocals or instruments, depending on the song. Also, the Dolby remixes have additional content not present in the mix stems. So, I blame the engineers for this.I blame the estate over the mix engineers for any errors with unused vocals or mic bleed tbh. If you’re given the stems to the most iconic pop albums ever produced by the MJ estate, you wouldn’t say, “Let’s just go through and ensure they gave us the right ones, without any extraneous bits.” Then again, I’ve no clue why there are any extraneous bits in the stems they’re giving out.
Just another example of all parties involved just lazing out and believing they can slap the "MJ" name on any shoddy product they sell for easy profits.I blame the estate over the mix engineers for any errors with unused vocals or mic bleed tbh. Because they're not very good and they're not true to the originals. Why do I want new material on these records? And Whats the Problem? They sounding Fresh and with some New Material why is everyone unhappy? The mj Fandom is really weird when we get nothing we are unhappy and when we get something we are hating
Serban Ghenea was given the original studio multi-tracks. He mixed those to a new stereo mix, while probably trying to be as close to the original as possible. Then, those stems were given to John Hanes and he re-mixed those in Dolby Atmos. My best guess is that they mixed with the real multitracks, not the stems. No, it was over the Immortal remixes. There was a clause in Quincy's contract that he was to be offered first refusal if any of the songs he worked on were to be remixed (which was a silly argument, since it was a Cirque du Soleil project and not simply remixing Quincy's work but a contract is a contract and Quincy pounced). It wasn't like the 2020 mix of George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" where they actively tried to remove the Phil Spector sound, but Quincy didn't care.Didn't he sue because the Bad 25 master sucked? I remember them setting up a deck and playing the title track from the original and the reissue.
Damn itNo, you can't get real Atmos through headphones, that's just a scam
You need to have speakers on the ceiling, preferably 12 speakers in total.
you can still listen to a stereo folddown of the Dolby Remix via headphones or a standard stereo speaker set upDamn it
Yeh but i dont have apple musicyou can still listen to a stereo folddown of the Dolby Remix via headphones or a standard stereo speaker set up
It usually takes about 24–72 hours for Apple Music to fully update across regions. Sometimes the Atmos badge shows up first, but actual playback and even the artist page can lag (for me, it only shows on the album page for Bad and OTW, not when I open them from Michael’s artist page). It probably just needs a little more time before it’s fully active in the US.Does anyone know when they will release it in the US/Nation wide?
Seems overly complicated & just not right.Serban Ghenea was given the original studio multi-tracks. He mixed those to a new stereo mix, while probably trying to be as close to the original as possible. Then, those stems were given to John Hanes and he re-mixed those in Dolby Atmos.

It seems Humberto's remixes are being used for the biopic and subsequent releases. The current Atmos mixes are quick "in-house" projects done around 2022.Who's told you this?
Humberto Gatica is working on atmos mixes of MJs entire catalogue.
The irony being they aren't actually releasing these as a product, lol.Just another example of all parties involved just lazing out and believing they can slap the "MJ" name on any shoddy product they sell for easy profits.
Yeah, you wouldn't buy a copy of Thriller where they replaced Billie Jean with the Pepsi version.Because they're not very good and they're not true to the originals. Why do I want new material on these records?
Would I want the Mona Lisa republished in a yellow dress?
And therefore missing the whole point of the format, being 3D sound coming from all directions.you can still listen to a stereo folddown of the Dolby Remix via headphones or a standard stereo speaker set up
The Jackson 5 Greatest Hits had a quadrophonic (4.0) mix in the 70s- I'd love to see that get a release on a modern digital format.I’m more curious when/if the other albums are getting their Atmos releases.
That'd be pretty neat to hear. I know that only one of their albums is currently available in Dolby Atmos, and it would be the Christmas Album. The Jackson 5 Greatest Hits had a quadrophonic (4.0) mix in the 70s- I'd love to see that get a release on a modern digital format.
Very surprised to hear this. Just checked the Thriller credits and you’re right, Humberto is credited and not Serban/John. I know John was speaking on Gearspace about doing the Thriller Atmos mixes and how amazing that was, so maybe he was also under the impression that his mixes were used.According to the Apple Music database, Ghenea and Hanes are not credited for Thriller, and were never added in 2022. Humberto Gatica is credited as "Additional Engineer" on Thriller and Bad, but that is due to him being the recording engineer of both albums. It is possible that he would be the one that did the Dolby Atmos remixes for Off The Wall and Bad. I would guess the original Ghenea/Hanes mixes remain unused. If that is the case, I'm very sorry for the misinformation. I updated the post and credited him for the new mixes, but the info is still uncertain. Comparing the songs to the trailers and spots, the mixes do sound different, but I guess we should wait for official confirmation.
Well, Thriller is still John's mix that was released in 2022. The others, unsure. Humberto Gatica is credited because he was the recording engineer of Thriller and Bad back in the 80s. Not because he did the new mixes. It points more towards him having done the mixes for Off The Wall and Bad tho.Very surprised to hear this. I suppose it’s nice that one of MJ’s actual collaborators did the Atmos mixes, but given that the response in here has been mixed to negative, it seems like maybe they should’ve gone with Serban/John.
Very odd — I don’t see John credited on my end at all. Is it possible they swapped the mixes?Well, Thriller is still John's mix that was released in 2022. The others, unsure. Humberto Gatica also re-mixed demos and live performances in Dolby Atmos, so eventually there will be something coming soon
None of the Dolby Atmos engineers were ever credited, including Serban Ghenea, John Hanes and Humberto Gatica. Humberto Gatica is only credited on Thriller and Bad because he worked on the albums originally in the 80s as well, not because he did Dolby Atmos mixes.Very odd — I don’t see John credited on my end at all.
