"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I’ve said it before but I have real doubts this film will make anything close to a billion.

There’s still a lot of people who don’t even know this film exists. There’s a lack of promotion in my opinion.

To think it comes out next month, where is the hype?

I wonder if they have the final cut right now? Is the runtime set? I remember watching the Lord of the Rings making-of documentaries and they seemed to edit and make changes until very close to release. In those days the copies were on physical film so the deadline came faster.

Some films even change during/after theatrical release! Alien Romulus got updated VFX by the time it arrived on digital.

"Unprecedented promo" definitely feels like setting themselves up to fail. So far it's been nothing of the sort..
The marching band was really cool, but how many average joes was that going to appeal to to watch a film they may or may not be bothered with seeing?

I'm also conscious of the fact that everyone involved in this film signed on out without knowing that the Estate effectively paid of the Cascios for their silence over 6 years ago. I hope to god this doesn't come back to bite them at the expense of MJ. This has been at the back of my head since it all came out, especially for the promotional interviews etc.

Some are expecting way too much in terms of promo. At the end of the day its just a relatively niche movie.
Its not the times of the history statues or earlier unfortunately.

It was cool yeah, but agree. It's not going to make anyone want to see the film or draw new eyes to it etc. I imagine it will start to heat up massively though.

The rumour re: allegations was that Universal nearly pulled out of the project, right? I'm sure when the Branca story was first posted it was mentioned somewhere as well as Cirque cancelling 'One'.

It's hard to work out what constitutes as a spoiler vs general information about the film lol

To me, spoiler is anything you are not meant to know going into the film eg. plot, suprises, unannounced cameos as the film has now 100% been seen by people. General information would be anything put out there by the studio for us to know.

It's always a fine line, if I get to the week of the film with no spoiler I'll stay off here and the usual places.

One thing I really hope and believe the film will do right is the audio editing, so that when Jaafar opens his mouth and sings, Mike's voice seems organic and natural

Some of the dubbing in biopic's really takes me out of the film
The only time I have ever been convinced about an actor singing what they were miming was Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose. She earned that Oscar I tell you.

Lady Gaga made a point of this for A Star Is Born. She suggested singing live for all the scenes because of how shit lip syncing comes across in films and it absolutely makes the film seem so authentic. Obviously, that's comparing apples and toasters, but it backs up your point about dubbing.
