Billboard Catalog Album and Catalog Album Sales Rankings - 2026-05-02

This week, Michael Jackson's Number Ones(2003) reaches the top spot for the first time since 2014, but for the 32nd week overall. It is one of four different albums to reach the Catalog top spot this year, but is the longest tenured at number 1 among those several albums.

Quoted from UKMix

P.S. I think this is for the charts published last week. There should be a new one published today/tomorrow 👍

Ok stats and chart nerds 🤓 another question:

What do you think explains the differences of MJs ranking (or any observations for other artists) among different streaming services?
Do you think the users differ by e.g. age? Or is it maybe a difference between the people selecting songs to include in Playlist? Or could the estate marketing section for once have made a clever marketing deal to push charts on i tunes and Apple (via Playlists and suggested songs)?

As we "discuss" here many times, streaming can be manipulated to some degree (@R1chard , where are you these days 😉).
(This is not meant to diminish any mind blowing numbers! 🙌)

It's also interesting to ponder on the Idea that the more intense fans probably have not contributed proportionally to streaming success, because they are more likely to own physical and digital albums.
iTunes is mostly for people above a certain age, the younger generations don't buy digital songs anymore.
Spotify is the most popular streaming platform around so it's the most representative of what the mainstream actually listens to.
Apple music is the second one in popularity compared to Spotify but it's mostly used by people who use iPhones so it's not as representative of the mainstream as Spotify is.

It doesn’t really matter. MJ is pretty much dominating them all at the moment 💪😂

It is. And it gets better each day. He’s over 11,000 points again today 😮

I keep an eye on this, especially around Halloween. Then I get excited when he gets up to 800 (yes hundred) points 🤪👏

Once the film was released I thought, “it would be amazing if he could get top 10”and near 2000 points!

I don’t think enough people realise what a massive achievement this is - for any artist, let alone a passed on Legacy artist!! 💪💪👏👏👏🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Billie Jean ( 5,376,295)
beat it ( 4,204,376)
don't stop t'ill you get enough ( 3,068,149)
smooth criminal ( 2,536,735)
they don't care about us ( 2,005,093).
These 5 songs are all written and composed solely by MJ.
Most people streaming these songs surely don't know that. But instinctively, they want to listen to these songs first, because that specific sound, the " new Jacksound" can't be heard anywhere else
2Bad MJ didn't realised that he was his own hitmaker for Invincible. He decided to change the recipe, the trademark of his success : no more singles written by him, background vocals sing by other vocalists, no more vocal gimmicks...
An updated 2001 version of Sunset Driver for instance would have been a killer opening track and a hit in the charts. Insteadhe préfèred slow tracks like Unbreakable, that needed 5 or 6 writers for such a simple and already heard beat.
