Taj Jackson's MJ Documentary - Updates and Discussion [MERGED]

Reading IS fundamental. I’m not making anything up. There were clearly several people who doubted Taj’s intentions AND his integrity concerning his project. You have YOUR opinion and it has nothing to do with MINE. 💁🏻‍♂️💁🏻‍♀️
His integrity is rightfully being questioned. An earlier excuse was that he had "many birthday parties to organise".

If a trailer or substantial update isn't given by the 31 December 2022 then people should demand their money back. Simple as that.

I hadn't seen this particular nugget. This is where the whole 'I must try to be more positive and more patient with Taj' thing starts to get quite tricky.

isnt he forced to pay the money back if he didnt use it for the purpose which he asked the people to donate?

I guess more than his integrity, his ability is being questioned. For instance, I don't have much doubt that he has good intentions of creating something to clear Michael's name, but I am questioning if he is qualified to do it or if he is bringing right people on board to do it. I am questioning his need for crowdfunding though.

I don't think that's how crowd funding works. The money is Donated not invested. So this could be seen as a risky project that failed. Though I could be wrong.

I can read very well, thanks. Nobody has questioned his intentions behind wanting to make this doc, or implied he would do something to hurt MJ, which is what you said and implied. If you consider people being concerned about the progress and trajectory of the documentary and wondering why it's not further along as questioning his integrity then yes that's happening and rightfully so. People have donated to and are funding this documentary so they have the right to express concerns when they feel like things aren't going well or that he is not taking it seriously.

It is obvious why people are concerned, I understand your M-O on this forum is to condescendingly talk down to everyone you disagree with but maybe you should fully understand what people are actually saying and why they're saying it before you try to do that.

Exactly. The quote about 'organising birthday parties'? If he really said that it's quite worrying. That just isn't how most people run their crowdfunder. At least, not any that I've seen. Regular updates, proper explanations where there are unavoidable delays or problems cropping up.
It's a bit disheartening, to put it mildly.

People are questioning his dedication or ability to get this done, not his intentions. At this point I'd say it's very much justified. The project has totally changed directions since it was first announced and we still don't even have a trailer or proof anything has even been filmed, and that's not even mentioning the weird excuses or lack of updates.

I understand all of this. Hiker made the point that it's more about his ability (or lack of) to execute this project and I agree with that. I was also expressing my confusion over the 'weird excuses' that he has apparently offered to the people who have donated money. I repeat, it's an odd way to run a crowdfunder.

I've already said that I think people have legitimate concerns about this whole thing. Even allowing for delays arising from the pandemic it's hard to feel optimistic about this project.

My MO as you condescendingly call it is to give MY opinion as you give yours. I don’t agree with your opinion and that’s fine. I understand FULLY what you and some others are saying, I JUST DON’T AGREE with it. Keep doing you, and I will keep doing me. Maybe I just have more patience than you. I’ve been doing this for 40+ years as a Michael fan and am used to it. I know young fans are more impatient than a lot of us hardcore longtime fans. It is what it is.💁🏻‍♂️💁🏻‍♀️

I also never got the crowd funding thing, aren't the Jacksons suppose to be rich? Why did they needed fans to pay for a documentary to clear Michael's name. LN was not crowdfunded, its just sad.

LN took 5 years to make with a professional production company behind it with massive financial backing during non covid times. Big corporations & media trying to profit from MJ as usual with a global well planned & orchestrated scheme.

Comparing Tajs one man project in the covid era to that is hardly fair? If it took 5 years to produce LN for Reed & company then an 11 part series from Taj could easily be expected to take 5+ years. There is no HBO or massive players backing taj up from scratch, nobody cared about clearing MJs name after LN other than Taj. He has been taking on this alone, so cut him some slack.

Taj doing a hugely controversial project does not mean Janet is backing him financially or even supports the idea of it.

That really bothers me, why would the family not get behind such project, especially Janet and make it happen! Why is Taj alone on this!!?

While I'm sure Taj has pure intentions, the lack of updates on this is getting a little ridiculous now. He assured us there would be a press release on or around his birthday yet there was nothing. And not even an explanation was given.

I'm glad I only chipped in a very small amount to his GoFundMe page. I'm really beginning to lose my trust in this project, as I'm sure many fans are.

Yeah I also donated a small amount. Lots of people donated so much more though. Agreed he really needs to release a statement of some sort

Yeah, this is where it lost me. I just don't understand this from a professionalism standpoint, which has made me doubt the entire project. Assuming he wasn't just totally fabricating the project (which I sincerely doubt he was) my thinking is that perhaps something just fell through with the funding he was anticipating, or whatever. I have no idea. But either way, it still shows a massive lack of judgment to not give an update.

Yeah, that's very fair. I never chipped in anything because I only became a fan this year and learned about his GoFundMe sometime in the spring I think. By that point I was more interested in Trial by Media and donated to that project. But I feel for everyone that donated some amount.

I've said it before, this is not how most people run their GoFundMe campaign. Regular communication and transparency are vital. Doesn't seem to be happening in this case based on what people are saying. I'm not doubting Taj's intentions but this is not the way to do this.

Beyond the lack of statements, communication, etc...what bothers me is the lack of footage. I can only compare it to Trial by Media and the regular updates we get of high quality footage, interview snippets, trailers, etc. It makes me want to donate every time. I don't mind not knowing a release date, because it's clear a ton of progress has been made.

I was listening to the MJ Cast the other day...one from early 2019. They made some reference to Taj making a documentary that will take at least a year to come out and how that might be too late. While I don't necessarily think anything pro-MJ is "too late" the whole conversation made me sad. The MJ Cast and a lot of other bigger figures in the fan community have been so supportive of Taj and now everyone is being quiet. I don't if it's just discomfort with calling it out, or if they know something, or what. But boy, it's frustrating.

Indeed but that's my point. If, for whatever reason, there are delays or problems in getting any footage out there, you need to talk to your donors, let them know what's happening and why. Yes, by now he absolutely should have something to show or report on but if there are problems, then that is what you share with your community.

The whole 'too late' thing is bc he initially talked about the doc as being a response to the tv programme. Well, that won't work now since you need to respond to stuff like that pretty quickly. People lose interest and move on. He can still do something, of course, no question. But, as a robust challenge to the DR stuff, it needed to happen much sooner. Documentaries obviously take a long time to create so maybe that was never a realistic goal. But, again, you talk to your donors and let them know that the parameters have changed and why. And that, of course, brings us back to his apparent lack of professional, relevant experience. That's how it comes across to me. I do hope I'm wrong. Not holding my breath.

I agree 100% with everything you've said! I was much more positive even a month or so ago. You know how much I despise not looking on the bright side of most everything lol. This is a tough one.

I stopped caring after watching 5hrs straight of loving Neverland. That is the best documentary I've ever seen of mj!! It's the most factual documentary ever! Needs to be a mini series on Netflix!
That doc had information even I didn't know about (and I know quite a bit, or so I'd like to think), so +1. Some parts really pull at the heartstrings though... Like darn it, I almost cried several times. But I did all of it for Michael.

I do have doubts about Taj's campaign but I don't think it's fraudulent.
Anyway he is our only hope for something pro-am to be pushed in to mainstream media and not just YouTube where the media can ignore it.
If there was any real suspicion on if this is fraud then I am sure the police would have stepped in by now

I cried my eyes out when they played little susie on the way to court on victory ✌🏾 day. I couldn't help it. I relived that moment
