To be honest, it's too late. I waited long enough for a 4K version, but there was nothing, so I got it on DVD instead. I like the movie, but it's not good enough that I need 2 copies.

I wonder if there's any deleted or extended scenes from this movie overall. Sucks we won't be able to get anything MJ related

We got the wiz as dvd blue ray plus mediabook it's enough wants Mj material

I really hope they release This Is It on 4K Blu-Ray. They would probably have to do some editing again but its possible. It was shot in 4K but was completed in 2K according to IMDB:

"Camera
  • Red One Camera
  • Negative Format
    • Redcode RAW

  • Cinematographic Process
    • Digital Intermediate(2K, master format)
    • Redcode RAW(4K, source format)"

Wonder if it was a tech thing at the time. Mind you....we didn't have 4k available in 09/10

The cover for The Wiz re re re release is terrible

The cameras that were used were 4K digital cameras. It was just common to make the final edited movie only in 2K.
Well we definitely need it in 4k....but at the same time....its so hard for me to watch that

To be fair, the footage in "This Is It" wasn't even meant to be seen by anyone other than MJ himself, so the fact that we have it AT ALL is a miracle, let alone whatever quality it's in.

Also, for everyone who doesn't already know, this is from Criterion Collection, who are the best of the best in terms of film restoration and physical movie releases in general. They usually specialize in classic and historically significant films and very rarely have "big" studio films in their collection (there are some exceptions, like Thelma & Louise, Wall-E, a few Spike Lee movies, etc.). These guys even released a big ass box set of all of the original Showa-era Godzilla films, and for Godzilla fans like me, it was AMAZING.

TL;DR This will be the DEFINITIVE version of The Wiz.

Not to mention, Criterion does 50% off sales at least once a year through Barnes & Noble. If you guys don't want to immediately get this blu-ray, just wait until the next sale rolls around and you can save a few bucks. That's what I'm gonna do!

One reason for the rehearsal filming was a behind the scenes documentary so it wasn't just for MJ. The movie also has some interview clips of the band filmed before he died.

I have some Criterion releases. Night of the Living Dead normal Blu-Ray and Godzilla 4K Blu-Ray. I think my favorite boutique label is Eureka.

For me, the entire movie of TII is just DVD filler. Imagine if you bought the actual recording of the full live concert, and also on the disc was the documentary as a bonus feature. That's what it should have been.

But the fact Bucharest and Wembley were both released as a bare-bones disc with absolutely nothing else means anything else would probably have been the same 🙁

And then it wouldn't have been the most successful music film of all time.

the album has been on streaming for years, I literally downloaded it as 24/192 in 2016 so the claim "For decades, fans could only access this music through vinyl records or CDs, but now, it’s finally accessible in high-quality streaming." isn't exactly right.

Huh? I don't know what this means. (1) It was only successful because he died. (2) Literally nobody cares what's "the most successful music film of all time".

As I said. The TII movie is absolutely perfect for a DVD bonus feature. But the star of the show is always the live performance itself.

I'd guess Taylor Swift & Hannah Montana fans care. :ROFLMAO: In the US at least Taylor & Justin Bieber concert films made more than This Is It. But This Is It is #1 worldwide.

Ok I don't know how to respond to this as you are jumping between realities mid post.

Has anyone bought this and seen it?

Is it worth buying? And what about the sound?

From Blu-Ray.com, the image looks fabulous, but the sound is compromised because although the new Atmos mix is great, it removes 1 or 2 lines originally recorded.
