Xscape „only“ sold around 1.1 million copies if I remember correctly? so I guess they think it‘s not worth doing it. But at the same time, it‘s been 11 years and I would say the album would reach more people if promoted correctly
To be honest, in those 11 years, the world has moved on.
Massively.
The "estate" has missed the boat. Nobody buys albums any more. CDs are finished. As you said, Xscape barely sold 1 million. T40 sold 0.1 million. Going forward, albums can be expected to sell less than this.
having features like The Weeknd or dare I say Taylor Swift on there, as long as the original versions are released as well of course
Well, that would make my mind up for me. If they're gonna fill the next album with duets or remixes from people MJ never met, it's an instant no-sale from me.
Don't forget that after the Biopic there will be a lot more people who want to buy stuff...
Most likely they will listen to Billie Jean and MITM once each, on YouTube, and that will be it. Nobody's gonna be converted into an MJ fan enough to want to buy anything.
I think if the biopic does very well (and I mean a massive success) then we could start to expect seeing proper legacy deluxe releases from 2028/2029 onwards starting with OTW 50.
"Super Deluxe" is just code for "ridiculously overpriced". I don't need a worse sounding version of OTW that comes with 6 discs of filler, at a bargain price of $180.
Last year I got the best version of OTW. I will never be buying that album again.
One could have long dangerous Short Films like history Greatest Hits history Volume 2 In full hd as Blue ray could republish everything was missed why must Mj have the worst estate
Music on DVD and BD only ever sold in very small quantities, even when those formats were relevant. But as with CDs, the time had passed. People aren't interested in owning music any more.
All albums were already remixed for Dolby Atmos scheduled to be released next year so theoretically, they could release Blu-rays for each album + eventually the short films
For some reason, there was this trend 5 years ago of remixing everything in Dolby Atmos... and then... not actually releasing them. See Sgt Pepper and Automatic For The People. I'd have bought them if I could, but they never actually came out. The only reason they do this is so they get a higher royalty rate from streaming platforms if an Atmos version exists (even if the stereo version gets played).
Also, when you say eventually - it stands to reason that any future BD for an MJ album must automatically include the audio
and all the videos, otherwise it's simply not worth doing.
