If “One More Chance” was properly released and promoted, would it have been Michael’s 2000s success?

It's a pretty basic and average song in terms of Michael's standards I think... It's mostly good enough because it's simply Michael singing it.

I don't mind R kelly's voice, but I always disliked his ad libs in this song, both in the chorus, and towards the end of the song

I think the video for One More Chance is quite innovative because Michael and the audience have switched roles. The audience is on stage, in the spotlight of his attention.
The accusations damaged the passionately sung song in several ways. They interrupted the filming of the innovative video, prevented its release at the time, and generated bad press. One More Chance could have become a real chart hit, but fate didn't give it a chance.

No offence, but why would you find it strange that Michael didn't include One More Chance on the This Is It setlist?

There are so many far better and well-known songs, such as PYT, Who Is It, and Give In To Me, that Michael never performed live and wasn't going to either during This Is It. So why would he even consider performing One More Chance on This Is It?

I don't remember exactly my train of thought in 2009, but TII was generally viewed as the last chance (Just "One More Chance", sorry the pun) to see him live. Seeing as it was his final curtain call, and a special setlist influenced by the fans, there was a huge expecation to see a lot of odd and never-performed-live-before songs. So my general instinct was to perform the freshest material, since he hadn't released a new album. There were even talk about hitting the studio after This Is It.

So my general feeling was that songs like You Rock My World, One More Chance, Whatever Happens, Speechless and Best Of Joy would have been performed live, mixed in with the classics like Dirty Diana, Rock With You and The Way You Make Me Feel, etc. Kind of a Greatest Hits tour, but with some new stuff added to the mix.

Also was the speculation of performing one song at one night, and another song another night, etc. Something he would not naturally do, but would be done this time, because it would be the last time he did this. Some even suggested odd songs like Get On The Floor, Baby Be Mine, Liberial Girl live, but I think that is a bit far-fetched. I still think, in hindsight him sticking to his guns. Looking back at it, I think you are right in that One More Chance would propably not be seen in a setlist...

In any case, it's sad. It will always be.

"One More Chance" was a top 10 hit in the UK, where This Is It was to be held, so it wouldn't have been that random for MJ to have performed it on tour.

But it feels like MJ didn't want to perform songs from 2001-2003 because he didn't want to be reminded of how troublesome that time period was for him. The label dispute, the Bashir doc, the allegations, etc. "You Rock My World" was a global success, but it was never rehearsed for This Is It. Just a small part of "Speechless" was "rehearsed" (and I don't think MJ was ever gonna sing it on tour. I think he was just warming up his vocals), and a small part of "Threatened" was mashed with "Thriller".

You don't hear a lot of "hee hee"s in the movie, either. MJ was out of it.

Michael wasn't creative when it came to picking his setlist for tours. He always performed the biggest hits, and very rarely performed songs that weren't singles.

This Is It setlist was exactly how I expected it to be. The only surprise was the inclusion of Dirty Diana, as I didn't expect him to perform that song live again.

I think you are right about 'speechless', it was in too random a spot to be included, and he also would have been crazy out of breath to sing it at that part of the show.

I love that 'threatened' was included, but I do think it is of poor choice to not reignite songs from 'invincible'. Just remixing 'unbreakable', could have built interest in the 2001 album and could have increased it's numbers globaly.

It's odd, that Michael's finished FAT for T25, but didn't push it for getting a single release. Imo it would have charted way better than TGIM08 or WBSS08 did.

FAT (instead of YANA) would have also been a better choice for the TII shows.
