i believe it was actually put there to help the tie move how Jackson wanted it to, the tie didnt flow correctly when he spun so addint the weight made the visual appearance more aesthetic. thats the story i had heard anyways

Oh that makes so much more sense! It would look pretty weird if the tie wasn´t moving at all if that was even possible lol
