19 Years Ago ~ The Oprah Winfrey Live Interview with Michael Jackson - February 10th, 1993

I did watch this when it first aired...it was must see TV. Geez I was almost 30.
I'm in the same boat as you! I can't believe this was 19 years ago already. Feeling old now!

Grew up with mom hating this interview. She too thinks it was the beginning of the end. The massive super bowl ratings, exposure of his wealth made him a huge target, and not only for the media.

This is my favorite MJ interview. This interview changed a lot of minds, and presto the Jordan Chandler thing happened.

It is great that you guys saw the original and enjoyed it. While he was alive, I deliberately stayed away from Michael interviews because I felt he was never comfortable doing them, and I was getting tired of the media jabs. I am glad that most of you enjoyed this one.

I remember thinking he looked happy and comfortable during this time. No sunglasses lol and his smile.

I agree with tinkebell and socav, i don't see the interview as the beginning of the end. I just think it was inevitable that mj would have to open up a bit more - the rise of 24 hr news and allthe entertainment media made it impossible for someone of mj's stature to resist this culture. Wasn't it speculated that he agreed to do it because he was disappointed in dangerous sales and in fact they were boosted by the interview? What struck me was how calm and collected he was during all the questions, even the virgin one!, but showed real passion and fire when talking about his skin disease and how proud he was to be black. I'm just speculating but i've always wondered if that was the underlying reason he gave the interview, to have a massive platform to finally address the turning white issue. That was certainly one of the main talking points afterwards in the media.

The beginning of the end for mj was his decision after the oprah interview to renew his acquaintance with the chandler family. Unlike 10 yrs later with the bashir interview, i don't see how this interview laid any groundwork for what was going to happen subsequently.

.............I became a' fan and fell totally in L.O.V.E with him after this interview,I swear!

Yeh i agree with u bout mj not being comfortable doing alot of the interviews he did cuz you tell he was thinking in his head "why do i have do this?".

Oprah : Well, when I came here to, um, about a month ago to shoot a commercial with you for promoting tonight's event, one of the things that really impressed me the most, I hope you guys are getting shots of this. I don't know how you are, if all the cameras are on us, but, oh, we got other cameras - is that there are, built inside the walls here-beds-beds for some of those sick children who come. And what I realized when I saw this is that you have to be a person who really cares about children to build it into your architecture.
This is what impressed me most.
I saw the interview in tv but I didn´t have a video player and didn´t see it again until summer 2009.
I didn´t remember moonwalk,Michael beatboxing ,all I remembered was he had beds for sick children who came to Neverland
Whatever happened to Michael after the interview this have been the real Michael Jackson for me.
