Since September is just around the corner a conversation at work got me reminiscing about the first day of school and just going back to school after summer vacation. I don't remember my very first day of school specifically. It was so long ago - 1971. But I do remember I loved my shiny red book bag. And my Laugh-In pencil case (yes, I really am that old). I didn't go to kindergarten or pre-k. I started in 1st grade, which I still resent to this day. I remember being very jealous of my younger sister who was going to kindergarten at the time because when I saw her classroom they had toys and puppets (the puppets are burned in my memory) and we had nothing.
I still remember getting that awful feeling of back-to-school anxiety every September from first grade through college. To this day when the Jerry Lewis telethon comes on, I still get a little nervous. And I haven't been in school in almost 20 years. Other than that, I love fall.
