...Alex Gale of Billboard Magazine Says Taylor Swift’s Current Run Resembles MJ in the 80’s

Senior editor at Billboard Magazine, Alex Gale, recently stopped by the Sway in the Morning studios and the result was a full fledged discussion about some of the hottest artists current stock, is it rising, falling, or plateauing?

Note: even the hosts were surprised hearing that.

There is no accounting for taste. If anything it shows the devolution in the quality of chart based music now. Plus it is also heavily insulting to the memory of Michael Jackson, being comapred to a third rate singer of breakup songs and childish Disney Pop style party songs.

There is no successor to Michael Jackson, he came, he conquered and left us awestruck. No one will top his legacy.

Taylor Swift is very popular in today's music market but anyone who believes it's a Thriller-level popularity probably doesn't know much about the actual Thriller-era. Heck, Swift doesn't even have the most popular album among her peers (Adele does), so why would she be compared to MJ? Based on what exactly? She doesn't have the same talent as MJ. She doesn't even do the same genre of music as MJ. Why isn't she compared to someone like Shania Twain? That probably would be more appropriate.

I think it's all just hype and marketing. They use it with every artist out there now. If you say XYZ artist is like Michael Jackson then it elevates them up and people will (hopefully) say "Wow" and rush out to buy albums. Billboard is not unbiased. They probably work in conjunction with the artist's PR firms. It's getting old and stale though as every artist is comparable to MJ.
I wonder what those two would say privately off camera.

Here we go again.... Someone really needs to make clear that there is only one King.

Comparing artists like Taylor Swift with MJ is an insult to him!
