Dangerous album - late 1990 configuration

Let's not forget Dangerous was originally scheduled for January 1991 and again for June 1991

I really want to know what the latest version of Serious Effect, Monkey Business and If You Don't Love Me sound like.

The versions we have can't have been considered for Dangerous?

Who knows dude, maybe that's all we have for those songs.
Bottrell said "If You Don't Love Me" was a bit of an 'orphan' so I doubt it was seriously considered or finished for Dangerous

Probably the versions from the unreleased Dangerous bonus disc were sourced from the very same 2track tapes that were presented to the Sony guys.

Bottrell could clarify this, I suppose.

Sounds more like the soundtrack to a romantic screwball comedy than an album cut.
Listening to it now and it's loud as hell. This is something that would've worked on a comedy show, like a parody from a Simpsons episode or something. "She Got It" would've been a much better fit

I love If You Don't Love Me. It's exactly the sort song that people nowadays would discover and call a hidden gem. It's just so breezy and energetic.

I really like this track listing even though I much prefer how it ended up.

but do you think the song is album material?

Funny enough, yeah, but. It does not fit the New Jack Swing style Dangerous is known for; it would've been better on Bad to me. You could put it on any posthumous record now with some contemporization and it would basically be fine.
It's a weird song because it's not really like anything MJ has ever done. It wasn't good enough to make the album, but it sounds like a song that should've been given to another artist to record.

It's an unsual but great fun song. I like it.

It's not as repetitive and boring as "one more chance" (R. Kelly song).

Imo it could have worked on the Dangerous album, but also as a promotional giveaway Pepsi single.

My personal theory is that the old tracklist - and the minidisc/DAT it was in - came from August 1991. SPYHO had percussion done later into August, the mix for Who Is It comes from August 2nd, 1991, Dangerous comes from March 29th, 1991, Earth Song - which SPYHO was briefly swapped out for in the DAT leak - has a mix present that comes from April 24th, 1991,
Bill Bottrell on the leaked mix of ES:

This is a rough mix. It sounds like it was done the day of the orchestra session, because the strings parts are all there for inspection. The Voc is too up and too dry, the drums are too loud, etc.
6/91 is my only mix. the orchestra is blended with synths for reasons that became clear when I just now heard this one with a clear orch.

Everyone loves the head-voice in the outro. Me too.
Just that the words aren't there.

Monkey Business is one hell of a song that deserved to be on Dangerous just after RTT DYWYCA would have been a good add to the album before BOW.
