[Discussion] Sexual Abuse Claims Against MJ Estate - Robson/ Safechuck/ Doe

'The Independent' (UK)

Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed faces legal battle while shooting sequel to Michael Jackson documentary

Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed has found himself facing another legal battle with Michael Jackson’s legacy companies while attempting to shoot the sequel to his documentary.

As reported by Deadline, Reed has been filming in the Los Angeles Superior Court for a follow up to the award-winning 2019 documentary.

The sequel will show the fallout of the original film’s release and the effect it had on Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who allege in Leaving Neverland that they were sexually assaulted by Jackson when they were minors. Jackson’s estate strongly denies these claims.

Robson and Safechuck are currentluy pursuing separate claims against MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures, but Jackson’s companies are reportedly attempting to remove Reed’s access to the legal proceedings.

Last month, the companies served Reed and his production company, Amos Pictures, a subpoena demanding that the director hand over any documents and materials related to Leaving Neverland and the sequel. They are also attempting to ban him from filming inside the courtroom.

Jackson’s attorney’s claimed to the court that Reed was not a legitimate journalist and that Leaving Neverland was a one-sided film.

In response, Reed stated that he had no personal affiliation with Robson and Safechuck and had not paid them to appear in his sequel. He also attached emails showing that he had asked MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures counsel Howard Weitzman to appear in the second documentary, but was refused.

In response to the “various false accusations” about his credibility, Reed said: “The follow-up documentary for which I am currently filming in these cases is about current events taking place partly in public view and will be an unfolding narrative with multiple points of view.”

Reed was backed by Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs Louisa Compton, who said that the Jackson companies were trying to “suppress” reporting on the Robson and Safechuck cases.

“Understandably, the MJJ companies are not happy with Leaving Neverland or the making of the follow-up documentary,” she said. “It is easy to see why they do not want the subject matter of these films to be reported to the public.

Michael Jackson Exonerated as Judge Dismisses James Safechuck Case, Wade Robson Will Be Next
by Roger Friedman - October 21, 2020 10:16 pm

https://www.showbiz411.com/2020/10/...james-safechuck-case-wade-robson-will-be-next

Michael Jackson should be pleased wherever he is today. The first of two cases brought against him posthumously by men who said they were abused by the singer in their teens was dismissed.

The case of James Safechuck was dismissed on demurrer, meaning just through paperwork, on Tuesday.
Judge Mark Young wrote, explaining demurrers: When considering demurrers, courts “are required to construe the complaint liberally to determine whether a cause of action has been stated, given the assumed truth of the facts pleaded.”

You can read the Judge’s complete finding here. But he didn’t buy that Safechuck, as a child, worked for Michael Jackson or his companies, and that Jackson failed “to warn, train, or educate” him. Safechuck’s case, like that of his pal Wade Robson, was concocted to get money from the Jackson estate because Michael– who died suddenly– failed to leave them anything in a will.

The judge wrote that: “Plaintiff [Safechuck] alleged that Jackson was “hired” by Defendants to coach, teach, and mentor minors interested in the entertainment industry. Setting aside Plaintiff’s allegation that Jackson was the President of both Defendants, Plaintiff has failed to allege specific facts detailing what such mentorship looked like (or was supposed to look like) from 1988 through 1992.”

The case has been tossed and it’s not coming back. Howard Weitzman, Jackson’s estate lawyer, said in a statement to Showbiz411: “We are pleased that the court agreed that James Safechuck case should be dismissed because [they] had no grounds to pursue his lawsuit.”
Robson’s case will be decided next. Each of these men participated in the disastrous documentary “Leaving Neverland,” in which they described– without evidence or backing or a chance for the estate to refute–child molestation at the hands of Michael Jackson. This was a decade after they’d attended Jackson’s funeral, many years after Robson testified for Jackson in a child molestation trial. They each seemed motivated to find money at the expense of truth.

The documentary, shown on HBO, has been derided by Jackson fans who’ve meticulously pulled it apart and examined all the testimony of Safehuck and Robson. It’s like having a thousand Perry Masons working at once.

Now the film’s director, not satisfied to have participated in one painful farce, is trying to make sequel. Since the Jackson estate is still suing HBO, it’s unlikely he’ll find a home again there anytime soon.

This was posted on Madonnanation and they're really getting on my nerves with their negativity. They're asking how was he "exonarated" when the judge claimed the companies were not responsible for MJ’s actions?

Bloody fuming, tbh. It's like they WANT Safechuck and Robson's lies to be true.

Tell them to watch lies of L.N and square one.some will always try to excuse their lies. Personally i take the case been thrown out than a trial with a not liable verdict and where the same ppl will claim he got away with it because they are clueless of the facts due to the one sided propaganda from the media.

This is why he was baiting fans to see if he could get them to say nasty stuff to him on his twitter. Scum. This man is slim and fans need to call him out on twitter.

MJ was cleared in 2005 why cant those fools except that verdict over there? James case was thrown out twice now let alone all the lies revealed. They want the lies to be true

It makes them feel better to think hes guilty. Whats the other option. An innocent man was persecuted for 25 years. Some ppl prefer kids to have been abused rather than mj be innocent. It says more about them then it does us or mj.

BREAKING: The demurrer in Safechuck's case has been SUSTAINED WITHOUT LEAVE TO AMEND on ALL CAUSES OF ACTION.

MJ's side has won in their court pleadings.

https://mjjr.net/docs/2020-10-20-Final-Ruling-Safechuck-Demurrer.pdf

JAMES SAFECHUCK'S CASE, pending any further appeals, is OFFICIALLY DISMISSED FROM THE COURT.

The war certainly is not over and plenty of things are still to come, but it is nice to see pieces falling into place and it's even better to celebrate victorious battles.

Fantastic news!!

I'm not in the least bit surprised that the major media outlets are reporting the subpoena served to Reed to deflect the latest defeat.

Their agenda is clearly to illustrate that the estate are trying to block the 'truth'. It's obviously designed to portray the estate to be a powerful force that cannot be beaten.

If they reported the dismissal is would further dimish J&W's credibility and their profitable narrative would no longer be effective with the public.

Although I'm certain that LN2 will still go ahead the latest outcome will not be nearly as compelling and it will be more difficult for Reed to convince that an impartial judge has dismissed the case due to no merit.

I wish for the day when the media start to turn the tide on J&W and hold them accountable.. That would involve real journalism though..

Is anyone actually surprised by the reaction of the lamestreet media? Come on, people....,,,,they are scumbag tools used by all types of nefarious monsters, when they are not the psychopaths and the super-predator-deviants themselves....Real journalism seems to be a dead and buried profession, with extremely few exceptions to the rule.

The only proper article about this whole mess was from Roger, yet again. It was actually quite brilliant, from start to finish.

Agree with Taj almostt wholeheartedly, except for that last sentence. Indeed, in a court of law, the facts, the letter and the spirit of the law, are what matters the most. But, I would give much more credence than others to the common sense of people. Beyond all the silly awards and well orchestrated defamation campaigns, people all across the world steel profoundly love Michael and his amazing music. I believe that is what terrell has been saying for about two years now in about 1492 ways already :D

*clinnnng goes the champagne glass* Cheer up, everyone! Don't allow any silly media head or some ignoramus somewhere to diminish your joy. This IS a time for celebration

Apologies if I have missed something, but weren't they also going to discuss Dan Reed's involvement in filming the case in the hearing last week?

Understandably the focus has been on Safechuck's case being dismissed but I haven't read anything regarding any discussions about Reed filming.

Good reminder! I think the docs. were submitted to the judge for him to take away and consider. I've not seen any reports from fans who are able to access court papers, but I'm sure fans will report as soon as they know anything. :)

As regards sanctions:

Finaldi sanctioned big time!

In a tentative order (finalized tomorrow), judge has imposed $9,200 SANCTIONS against Finaldi payable to estate within 30 days.

The judge agreed w/ estate—amount is for "time spent directly opposing the motion."

https://mjjr.net/docs/2020-10-16-Tentative-Order.pdf

Subsequently:

FINAL RULING ON SANCTIONS: The judge has -finalized- his ruling in which Finaldi has been sanctioned $9,200 for his failed motion on 9/24.

The judge made clear Finaldi's poor attempt to meet & confer was not appropriate or fair.

10/16 hearing didn't change this.

Subsequent to the court order for $9,200 in sanctions (relating to the conduct of the defence counsel during the deposition of LW ), on 23rd October 2020 Finaldi appealed against these sanctions.

(That's in addition to his appeal against the Safechuck ruling).

I hope this take away some of that "pessimistic" behavior you had.

To be honest not even slightly. The fact that this wasn't a news item makes my pessimism even bigger. It is no good news if it doesn't spread, the people have to to be convinced as well that MJ was innocent and we need the media for that.
I don't know how you guys perceive it all since LN but Michael used to be a bad joke, they laughed with his looks, childlike behavior and his alleged sexual interest in children. People joked but deep down they thought , the guy was just a bit weird that is all. NOW since LN I see people being reluctant to even mention his name, there is no joke or laughs anymore because it got really serious. This proves to me that most people tend to believe the current narrative.

That is how MJ's legacy was destroyed. Sure he still get airtime but there is no more "genius" or "talented but troubled soul" comments anymore. Nobody dares to talk about what they saw in LN. There is a stain over his entire career now.

There is hope but how much and how much time is left for Michael to be redeemed?

It is all over the place now including Foxnews. I do not see people stop saying his name and everyone is not dwelling on these lies. sorry but I do not hear what you are hearing no where. As for LN, people are either did not want to see that because they know it was all about money (that was proven even more with James's case being dismissed AGAIN- and this is with the NEW CA LAW in place. So now, they can NOT use the excuse "stautue of limitation cause them not to sue. They were allowed and James lost that. Next is Wade) or they said it look like lies. Maybe people aint talking about it because it has been proven to be BS. MJ will be fine and it will be even better when all of this is over. and if there is a stain, the Media got a stain, Oprah got a stain and she knows it; these lying accusers got a stain, HBO has a stain (and if the Estate win against HBO, that is going to be big blow to HBO), etc. And big up to Wiki for detailing info the correct way including telling how MJ music went UP and those Few places who moved MJ put it BACK on the radio due to POSTIVE FEED BACK. So again, I do not believe your logic overall. Are there going to be some "haters", of course, If MJ was perfect, somebody would find something to trash him about (Even Obama/Michelle has haters. Trump constanctly lie on Obama).

Michael has haters. he will forever have haters. we all have haters. but Michael is forever innocent and always will.

I been seeing media outlets saying it like bbc and billboard etc. so for others who not seeing it maybe you just don't look at the news etc. i don't even watch the news but i been seeing it in the community. maybe you guys live in a different country who won't put it out there. *rolleyes* screw them.

And as for the "talented but trouble soul", MJ is not responsible for lies told on him no more than we are responsible for lies told on us. Did Michael have problems, of course, but SHOW ME a human being who does not have issues. One thing I can say, you can believe people who judge MJ have JUST as much issues or MORE than Michael. if we all lived on tv, we would look the same way in some form. And as I said before, WE all have haters and I am sure there are a few areas that might hate on MJ more than others and that can be said about all celebs. Obama is loved but there are certain "areas" that HATE on Obama, Beyoncé, all rappers, etc. Does that mean they are over? No.
