Do you like Michael's chosen album titles?

Invincible has been hitting a lot for me lately as far as songs go, so I don't agree with any of these sentiments lol. I mean, yeah, it's not exactly deep or profound but was Dangerous or Thriller or Off The Wall or Blood?

A catchy video and airplay would make a difference

The issue isn't that it's not lyrically profound. It's that the song itself isn't very good; it's basically a more forgettable version of "Heartbreaker", which wasn't very good, either. They're basically 'N Sync songs.

The album don't need any songs with Fats, let alone two lol

I think they’re all great. I disagree with renaming Invincible as Unbreakable because that, to me, just feels so corny. I love the one-word trend he had and, if nothing else, think it’s cool that the estate is keeping that going. If they ever release another album, I hope that tradition continues.

I am fine with all titles ... Michael's choice for 'Invincible' surprised me though. I would have thought he would pick 'Unbreakable', because he mentioned that song quite a few times as being a favorite. Also, the song Invincible didn't strike me as a single choice, and Michael would usually release the title track as a single (Dangerous being the exception, but that was due to circumstances).

"History" wasn't a single, either. Not the original version, anyway lol

There was HIStory / Ghosts as a double single. With a remix of HIStory indeed. May be that counts only half! ;-)

Well, all title tracks were significant, except for Invincible:

Off The Wall – single, performed live numerous times
Thriller – legendary short film, single, performed during every tour
Bad – also legendary short film, single, performed live during several tours, also used for Pepsi short film The Chase
Dangerous – performed at several tv shows, performed during Dangerous and HIStory tours, performed at MJ & Friends
HIStory – performed during the HIStory Tour, remix released as a single, music video for remix
Invincible – nothing

Some cds had additionally a radio edit of the original album cut.

No, it was the regular official UK edition. The same typo was on the CD and the sleeve.

Is this the cover that has the red border? I'm dumbfounded that I've never noticed that before!

That's because promo for Invincible was cut short and "You Rock My World" was the only song MJ performed live.

Who knows if "Invincible" was gonna be a single.

Yes, who knows ... but somehow I feel Unbreakable, Threatened and Whatever Happens were more likely candidates for that.

If I had to change the titles while staying true to MJ's naming conventions, I would go with

1) Burn This Disco Out: Off the Wall was almost entirely disco despite coming out during the disco backlash. You could say the album was MJ's goodbye to the genre. Or maybe I'd go with "Workin' Day and Night".
2) Human Nature: Only other track on Thriller with a title that sounds like it could be for the album as a whole.
3) Smooth Criminal: Or "Speed Demon". These titles have a similar "bad-boy" vibe to "Bad".
4) Jam: Fits the New jack swing vibe Dangerous had.
5) Scream: Fits the "angry against the media" vibe the History album had.
6) Ghosts: I always felt this would have been a better title than Blood on the Dance Floor.
7) Untouchable: Rename the song "Unbreakable" to this to avoid confusion with the Samuel L. Jackson film. But if we can't rename songs, then I guess I'd go with "Speechless".

Tried to go for "single word" titles where I could. The only single word track on Off the Wall is "Girlfriend", but that would have been an awful title lol. "Thriller" is the only single word track on Thriller. "Bad" is the only single word track on Bad.

The shorter the titles, the easier they are to remember. Furthermore, most of his album titles describe the album as a whole very well.
