We desperately need MoFi/SACDs of Bad, HIStory, and ofc Invincible. Idk why there hasnt been a MoFi/SACD of Bad yet, like whats the reasoning for that? Waiting for Bad 40?

It’s been confirmed that MOFI will be handling the rest of Michael Jackson’s catalogue, including HIStory. This was from Jim Davis, the president of MOFI on a recent podcast.

Also this may be redundant, but I say that The Ultimate Collection should be re-released, or a new comp album that basically is TUC. Keep everything from TUC, add Michael, T25/40, B25 and Xscape, and then add some more unreleased songs that wouldnt fit on anniversary albums or new albums (if that ever happens) to make it more appealing for diehards. Songs like GYWOOM, the final version of Xscape & BG, Changes, demos of the Invincible tracks, the Loren tracks, Nite Line, stuff like that yknow?

Considering with how damn popular Michael is becoming again, do you think a TUC re-release would sell well with all the Michael hype rn?

Not sure why they didn't do HIStory for HIStory 30, but whatever, and I doubt they'll for Invincible this year despite its 25th...

Why should they release HIStory before Bad, if songs from Bad are included on HIStory? It's gonna be Bad, HIStory, Invincible, I don't remember if Blood also gets one, been a while since I talked to them. Though there's a reissue campaign by the estate and Sony later this year

It would be a complete waste of time.

To hear Dolby Atmos you NEED to have proper equipment and be listening in a large room with at least 8 speakers. You're not getting Dolby Atmos otherwise.

And yet in real life you do hear sounds from all directions. Crowd behind you, reverb from the sides. You can tell if the arena has a roof, etc.

Yeah, I'd go for a decent CD player. About $300-400 should get a pretty good one. Can't go wrong with Sony/Panasonic/Pioneer. If you're really serious, get an SACD or Blu-ray player, and copies of the MoFi releases.

Avoid 2001 Special Edition, Thriller 25, those sound garbage.

Nirvana released their box set (the one that TUC is based on). And then about a year later they released "the best of the box", which was just a single-disc set of highlights. That's what TUC needs. There was too much filler, just include the rare stuff and it will all fit into about 1 hour.

Correct, but that doesn't necessarily mean the best version of the album to listen to. MoFi has had some missteps (I can't give examples, but there was a list of releases listed on the Steve Hoffman forum when Dangerous was debated).

Dangerous very much split opinion when it was released by MoFi. I think it sounds fantastic, but the energy is sucked out of the album for me. To me it was supposed to sound abrasive and noisy and I think the original CD (and LP) captured it perfectly.

Also, there were question marks over balancing and sound levels. Jam, to me, sounds incredibly muted and sounds like a cat compared to the panther you can hear on the CD.

What player do I need for MoFi? I don't quite get it - is it like vinyl or more like a CD?

Just play them on a standard CD player, they're hybrids, meaning they have two layers, one standard red-book CD layer and a Super Audio CD layer. They are the same master, just one is in standard PCM, the other in DSD64. Not worth the money for casuals. Or get a $20 Sony Blu-ray player which supports both, get a seperate external DAC then tho, the ones built-in are terrible.

Btw, I would advise you that you get the standard 1991 CD of Dangerous, MoFi didn't fix the channel issues on Jam and Why You Wanna Trip On Me which are on the original master tapes and the mastering is very dull in the high frequencies. Their aim for the SACDs is to be closer to the original tapes and just do EQ and Compression changes, hence they don't fix issues

Hmm, interesting. I've wondered for 20 years why there weren't more cars with 5.1. I just put it down to the fact that cars are generally pretty bad for sound, so there was no point. ie they're small spaces, irregularly-shaped, lots of glass, the speakers were too close together, there are 4 seats so they can't all be in the sweet spot, there's a large amount of background noise, etc.

As for BMW, they're the ones who thought it was perfectly ok to charge a recurring subscription for heated seats, so I'd expect your speakers to stop working unless you're stupid enough to pay a monthly charge. Lol.
