i saw MJ dvd at my walmart lastnight i almost got it but it's a bad dvd don't BUY PLEASE

MJ Estate Furious Over Unauthorized Documentary
Michael Jackson's estate is lashing out at the people behind a new MJ documentary set to debut in Japan tomorrow -- claiming fans are being duped into believing the flick was authorized by Team MJ.



The estate has released a scathing statement claiming that Flamingo Features is promoting the movie in a way that is misleading MJ's fans into believing the film -- shot by former MJ confidante Marc Schaffel -- was properly authorized.

The estate also makes it clear it doesn't endorse the flick and none of the profits will benefit MJ's children. They also note that the movie is not allowed to contain any of Michael's music.

Schaffel doesn't appear to be bothered -- the above photo was taken moments ago at the movie premiere in Tokyo ... where Schaffel took the stage and told fans Katherine Jackson sent along her best wishes.

Bought it, but I've never watched it...
I just saw it in a shop and I've bought it, because I just collect everything from Michael....

Is the Estate even aware of this? Surely this is another illegal exploitation of MJ image and likeness.

It's a good documentary. Plus it has been out for almost two years and the Estate did nothing. It's not really any different to the Estate ripping people off.

I don't think this is Marc Schaffel documentary. Schaffel's documentary is called Michael Jackson Commemorated and was indeed released in Japan. Ironically, it contains some of the best Michael's footage out there.

I think it's HORRIBLE how many people are using Michael's name to get money. Let the man rest in peace!!!! I will NOT be purchasing that DVD and I hope the Estate takes legal action against the man who put it out.

It's been out for almost two years and the Estate didn't stop it. Remember the Estate is about making money as well.

AS far as I can see the documentary is not offensive to Michael. _ In fact I loved it :)

It is just not an authorised by the Estate. Meaning it does come from nor does it benefit the Estate or MJs childrren.
The only way Estate will intervien is if they use MJ intelectual property without paying royalties for the use of it.

The only thing The Estate wanted to make clear is that it is not an official documentary from them.

TMZ is just fanning the flames and exagerating OLD news

There is no reason for fans to fight it or come against anything here.
The Estate has it well under control.

Thanks for the warning. Though even if I did saw that dvd at Wal-mart I still probably wouldn't get it anyway. Even if I wasn't told about it. Cause for the past several months I had totally lost interest in getting more MJ related stuff.:sad:

But the TMZ article itself isn't new. Look at the date on it. June 24th 2010. This is why I was saying that this is kind of a non issue. And it is indeed a very positive documentary with a lot of rare and candid footage of Michael.

Im sure I dont have to explain this difference to you, but your comment may be misleading to others who dont know the difference

There is Nothing wrong with Estate profiting or earning money to support Michael's OWN Estate and children. But it could be questionable with others using his name and likeness illegally to profit themselves It is the Estates job after all to Make money to support the Michael Jackson's estate. They are the caretakers of Michael proerties physical and intelectual. They hold the copyrights.

MJ set up his estate to to profit and protect his property and legacy. Some may be using MJ Property or copyrighted material that doesnt belong to them Bottom line - They are not allowed to profit from what doesnt belong to them. _ Estate can take legal action if they choose or require that royalities and fees be paid for use of the property.

Ok I see _ the TMZ article rockstar posted was from 2010 - much has happened since then



OK THIS Documentray is AWESOME .. with many rare footages from MJ visit to Gary in 2003



The Estate didnt legally come against it they only stated it wanst authoried or from them.

It not a bad DVD .. The Estate didnt say it was bad _ TMz didnt t say it was Bad. They just said that is wanst an official documentary from the Estate - The documentary is very postitive and has beautiful never before seen footage that we all Love from MJs Visit to gary in 2003 :)

Yes, I liked... BUT NOW the situation is completely different. Michael is not here and people are taking advantage of this to make money using his name. :perrin: :doh: I do not really approve this -_-, to me, is not correct. :nono: Maybe I'm wrong? :fear: No...
 
If I remember correctly, Shaffel owns the footage so he can do whatever he wants with it.

It was a good documentary. What's the point in being upset about something that's been out for 2 years and was put Michael in a positive light?

The articel Rockstar Posted was from 2010 .. She was confused and thought it said it was a BAd documentary. There is nothign new happen now .. Its is Not a bad documenteray and Sheifeild produced and owned that footage . They didnt take anything from the estate. Would fans rather this be hidden away in vault never to see .. I didnt hurt MJ in any way. It humanised him and show how awesome he was .. It was a good thing all around IMO It was very kind loving and honorable to Michael . The end was very emotional.

If someone profited from making it, well good for them becuase they deserved to for such a GREAT work produced about Michael. Profiting from ones good work isnt bad and if it benifits Michael it is not using or taking from Michael or his Estate its a good thing. There is a difference _ We dont want to censor every work created about Michael just becuase a profit is made. Valuable things cost money to make create and publish. Its not fair to attack becuase someone may profit. We have to consider the work and if it is valuable or is beneficial to Michael's legacy.
 
I saw that at a Walmart some years back and left it alone because I thought it would be no good. The best thing is to stay away from the unauthorized Michael Jackson products. Someone even wanted to buy it for me and I say no thank you. Of course those who want footage of Michael may like this, and based on some of the comments, some of you bought it and liked it. There will always be a market for things Michael Jackson.

Erm. The Estate money will eventually be Michael's kids. Will Schaffel's money be? And it's an Estate that Michael authorized in his Will.

But to me that's not the problem. He made the footage, he probably has the right to do with it whatever he wants. If it's the Commemorated documentary it's actually good too. But I will never forget what this guy did to Michael while he was alive. He was just another backstabber. So while I watched this docu on YouTube but I would never fill Schaffel's pocket with money by buying it. I'm not forgetting what he did to Michael.
