Just watched this video ... a bit in shock (I feel old after watching it), but it tells so much about Michaels fame being so different from other stars.
This Gen Z kid – nice guy, really – watches We Are The World. He enjoys the song, but:
doesn't recognize Lionel Richie
doesn't recognize Paul Simon
doesn't recognize Bob Dylan
doesn't know Diana Ross
doesn't recognize Tina Turner
doesn't recognize Ray Charles
isn't sure which guy is Bruce Springsteen
but when Michael appears, he smiles, pauses the video, calls him 'MJ', and says some really nice things.
It says a lot about the longevity of fame ...
(to be honest: he also recognizes Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Willie Nelsen and Cyndi Lauper ... but that's about it)
