Ghost of another Lover
lyric + music by skylark + michael jackson

i remember daylight
turned into an endless night
i was lying awake and i
found myself thinking ‘bout you
all you do
all that you do

so i tried to get away
far from any yesterday
living like a runaway
under the light of the moon
locked in a room

in the room was the force of a presence calling me
pulling me into the mist of a dream
then the voice of a heart in the shadows said to me
i spent all my life searching for you

i was caught in a race with time
caught in a run for cover
with the ghost of another lover
i was left in the face of fear
and afraid i could be discovered
with the ghost of another lover

i was nearly going blind
trying hard not to lose my mind
running from another time
hoping nobody would know
it was so
so long ago

and the wind made a rush when i found her standing there
waiting there in the abyss of a dream
then i heard in a voice that was echoed everywhere
i spent all my life searching for you

i was caught in a race with time
caught in a run for cover
with the ghost of another lover
i was left in the face of fear
and afraid i could be discovered
with the ghost of another lover

and i look for a way though i know there’ll never be
i’ll spend all my life thinking of you

i was caught in a race with time
caught in a run for cover
with the ghost of another lover
i was left in the face of fear
and afraid i could be discovered
with the ghost of another lover

race with time
she blew my mind
rain or shine
the ghost of time

Holy crap fellas. I have been obsessed ith this song for years and have never found/heard many concrete vocals.
These new lyrics, however, are amazing. If you go to 3:47 on the song, it corresponds directly to the final verse of the newly found lyrics .
Edit: To note, the new lyrics don't really work with Michael's mumbling, but they work perfectly with the BGVs.
Edit #2: These new lyrics do correspond to some lyrics! The demo is almost certainly an early version where Michael mumbles around some lyrics that he has already written A-la Ghosts demo. The caught in a race with time chorus actually works with the demo and its BGVs. However, like lyrics written on the Bad and Thriller lyric sheets, these lyrics are what Michael had written and not what was actually sung in the song.

We need this track. That groove is so addicting and these lyrics are great. Hopefully a more finished version exists.

These are the final lyrics for 'Ghost of Another Lover', as posted by Skylark.

There are multiple vocal takes, ranging from a rough take to the final recording.
The Kingvention leak is neither the final vocal nor instrumental take.

Thom Russo was an assistant engineer, working alongside Bruce Swedien, who mixed the song.
The lyrics are by Michael and Skylark.

According to my notes, Ghost of Another Lover was recorded after Planet Earth.
The recording and mixing took place between 1989 and 1990.

Remember, this was at a time when Bryan Loren's songs were being considered for Dangerous, so naturally some ideas were floating around.
'Ghost of Another Lover' was one of these ideas. It's one of the more complete demos.

In my opinion, the earlier Dangerous album configuration would have been a great match, especially given Lorens' work on it.

Quit yapping

Michael didn't write this song.

Take a look at Michael's note next to "Ghost" on his to do list from 1990 **get lyrics from writer**😉

Skylark is such a mysterious writer. Just happens to spawn and write 2 songs for/with MJ which he both records (partially), to then disappear with nobody ever talking about them. Very interesting.

I really hope MJ laid down more vocals other than that one take, it has great potential. I really like those lyrics.

Weird how he also just randomly pulls it out again 2 months before he passed after not thinking about it for nearly 20 years

"Call it off" is the only track off that to do list we haven't heard so far

Not quite. There's also:

-the 1991 version of "Best Of Joy"
-Joy
-Truth On Youth
-the 1990 version of "Don't Be Messin' 'Round"
-Ask Rene (though it could possibly be "Time Marches On")
-the 1989 version of "They Don't Care About Us"
you have heard Ask Rene.

I don't understand this note: 'Ghosts' wasn't written by MJ..?

Well, if you take a look at skylark’s site you would see, that he‘s of a different opinion!
(In regards to who wrote GOAL)

Are you making this up, or do you really have a solid and truthful source of information? I don’t understand why people have to lie about these kinds of things.

It’s not Ghosts, the song from the Blood on the Dance Floor album — it’s Ghost without the “s”, and it most likely refers to the ghost of another lover.

Are you sure it can't be 'Ghosts'? That was also planned to be on Dangerous, and 'overdubs by Teddy Riley' would make more sense
